Where Would be a Good Place to Look for a Decent MK 1 or Mk 2 850 Commando and What Should I expect to Pay?

I've had good luck with Craig's List. Put 1974 Norton Commando, or Norton Commando 1974 in the search box and then expand the search radius to 1000 miles from your zip code. I usually start with 200 miles and work out. Bring a Trailer is OK, but IMO tends to favor mid to high end choices.

Best.

You're not going to find a better deal than this. Put a deposit on it. I don't know about NY, but real estate in MA is going for record highs this summer

I got a private email from the seller. He will hold the bike for me. Seems like a straight up guy. Not hard up for money or in a hurry to sell. I think he wants to see the bike go to a "good Home".

if it were me , i'd send him a $100 "good faith" money to hold the bike. who's to say someone doesn't come around with a fistful of cash, and the next thing you know, the bike's gone. just sayin' and my 2-cents....

Yes I'll do that. The fact is though he just took down the listing. It is no longer on Craigslist.:D

Well, you'll have to come to the 2022 Rally in NY with it. You could probably just commute. It's pretty close to my own '73 850, mine even has the same Old Brits oil pressure gauge. I like to assemble all the Fireflake Blue Commandos for a group picture.
Both mine are, but the 750 is currently apart waiting on the rebuild.

Where is the rally located?

Ohhhh yeahhhh..... I still have a paid for hotel room.

What is a RH10 head ?
The ‘best’ 850 head.
It has 30mm ports, which give the best velocity and still enough flow, the later RH4 had 32mm ports which are too big. Lots of info posted on this by Comnoz in his lengthy ‘head flow testing’ thread.
Plus the RH10 does not have the larger valve guides and propensity for cracking around the guides like the RH4.
