Where did that go!

More details please
Don’t have detail beyond the picture glb. The bike belongs to a guy called Igor, from the FB owners site. Questions were asked of him relating to the various modifications but from memory, he did not respond.

The vintage steering damper looks great to my eye and would have been secured simply down through the steering head over the steering head nutl using just the steering rod and securing nut (would have to move the horn of course) - a nice bit of bling if you’d like that sort of thing. Although that is a bit hypocritical of me after sharing my thoughts on the Triumph fake FI covers !

I like that idea, very classic looking. Rather than move the horn perhaps it would be possible to insert a threaded collar into the centre of the steering head ? Maybe something like bar end mirrors use?

A ‘bit’ …!?

I can forgive you this transgression my son - what we are doing here is making a functional item more decorative rather than a non functional imitation....
I also thought those Triumph items were non functional cosmetic covers until I had a better look.
They aren't covers at all, they are the housings for the throttle bodies and are needed to make the bike run. Rather than make them shaped like monobloc carbs, they could have made them in a nondescript shape, however housings of approximately that size are needed.

So like them or hate them, they are functional items.

Those tricky folks at Keihin, what will they think of next!
I guess they could have shaped them like Webers, or SUs., or maybe a small turbocharger.:p;)

Note to self………..don’t mention the war………don’t mention the war……… don’t mention the fake FI covers:oops:!!

I still like the idea though, hypocritical or not:D!

Where did that go!

I wish they were just covers.
That way if the peer pressure from all of you cool kids gets too great, I could change them and not have to be so ashamed.
The way things are, I'll just have to live with the shame.
It's not so bad!

At least they have a matched pair on the hinkley Bonneville's IE a 389 and a 689 copy
Unlike the original Bonnie's that had two left hands!!
There's progress right there !

Not necessary Glen.
Most folks who look at your Triumph are gonna think it's a rebuilt classic Bonnie anyway, most old bikers don't know Triumph is back in business.
So just continue the story, and tell them it's a '65 Bonnie, and it was a tough job rebuilding those Amal monoblocs.
You can tell those folks that the monoblocs work so well, it runs like a modern fuel injected bike.:p

Ok so I grudgingly back down on this one if they are functional. At least someone has gone to the trouble of making them a bit more interesting than a plain boring shape...

This thread is brilliant
We have gone from a missing top nut to fake carburettors !!! :D:D:D:D:D

Possibly reflects the wandering minds of the ahem slightly more senior 961 owners... Now lets go and look in the fridge for that missing TV remote......
961 owners do tend to be quite old for some reason?
I base this on the fact that the only two people I know that own them are older than me
So this is factually based :D

Oh that reminds me:
The Decades cable TV channel here in the states is running Benny Hill episodes.
