What is this little black plastic cube? Thanks in advance. Oops, forgot to attach picture!

Likely a relay, to isolate the kill switch from ignition current.

It is a relay - they are often used to take some of the current out of the handlebar switchgear.

Often used on the Horn and Main Beam

...sometimes people use one on the kill switch (as in your case) to take away some of the arcing that can occur on the contacts when you press the kill button.

I was going to say a relay as well, but there only looks to be 3 connections.... typically there are at least 4 connections on a relay....

A normally open (NO) relay by the looks of it, and probably for the horn, thus avoiding a high current over the feeble switchgear.

Thanks, now I know it is a relay switch. I will trace the function of it. The power for the Alton was taken from the kill switch circuit which on this model was the button lower left.
My initial thoughts were maybe it was the filter to suppress interference for this pod unit. I am fairly certain the Pod unit is fried as it doesn't pass the tests for the diodes. Now to try and figure out a cause for diode failure??? My electronic skills are somewhat limited .

@BERT in my experience a "fried" reg/rec is usually down to one of two things:

  1. an alternator stator that has inadvertently had one of the output legs touch 'ground'
  2. a failed warning light assimilator which can also have the same effect as the above
