I think you will find the radiator is connected to the engine oil scavenge line so it cools the engine oil not the transmission oil.

So should I leave it, or remove it? It looks really bad...[/quote]
If for no other reason, remove it. It takes too long to come up to heat as it is. If an inline regulator is instlled, it helps to get up to temp but really, the oil cooler setup just isn't needed.

Looks to be a Mk2 850 (black cylinders)

With a production date of 7/73 and serial number 306395 it couldn't really be a Mk2 (Mk2/2A production commenced at 307311).

So the cylinder has been changed, or painted etc black, to make it appear like a Mk2.
Like I said, most 850 Mk 1 have ben restored to Mk2 look-a-likes, you rarely see a restored Mk1.

Has anyone done any testing to see if engines run any cooler with black cylinders, rather than silver cylinders ?

Hi S,
I agree about it probably being a Roadster.
The Seat, tank, Exhaust & Mudguards are aftermarket bits. A lot of other bits look very standard though so a rebuild to fairly standard condition should not be too hard if that is the way you want it to be.
I suspect you will get more info on this website than the NOC forum, but dont rely on it all being correct (take it with a pinch of salt)
The NOC officer that does the dateing is very knowledgeable but like someone said the poor lad is up to his eyes in it & is a non paid voluntier.
It can be worth joining the NOC depending if there is a branch near you.
My branch meet once a month & are very active. We have some great rides out in Yorkshire UK during the summer & they are a great bunch of lads.
In 2012 we are hosting the International rally in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Best of luck with the rebuild.
ps, Beware of worn out crap on ebay, ive been burnt once, so have my mates.
Sometimes a new item is cheaper than a S/H one on ebay. (I hope ebay dont have a hit squad)
Best of Luck, Cheers Don

Thanks all for the great feedback... I'm going to keep on working on it. I removed the oil radiator and its already looking better. In the process of a full tear down. Looking for some good, non SS fuel line. I will keep posting my progress on my flickr account. Thanks again all for the info and input. You all talked me into keeping the Dunstall kit intact. I may change the seat but will not get rid of it. :D

If you switch over to Photobucket it's a lot easier to post photos on the forum. Start a new thread and share with us all your progress.
