I have a 71 commando & am finally getting to the final stages of my restoration.
Now I need a battery. The bike is a kick start & has stock Amals & points. If anyone can point me in the direction of the stock battery, or recommend an alternate one, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

If you're not a stickler for the correct Lucas or Yuasa, the 12N9 4B1 battery is about the least expensive one you can get. ($29.99 for mine at one of the local auto stores)

As you may guess, I too have a 71 which is weeks away from being done. I bought the smallest battery they had at auto zone. this allowed me to fabricate a cool plate for my ignition key, pod mounting, and a handy-dandy 4 circuit fuse block. (I also re-wired it for negative gound. I still have to make a new battery clamp but with the side cover on, it's a very neat looking and somewhat weather guarded compartment.

I'm more interested in reliability than period correctness, so I also used a Japanese switch cluster, halogen bulbs etc......

p.s...... I hate taking pix of the bike: the resolution shows me EVERY little ding and scratch! quick, hand me the touch up paint!

thanks... VERY soon, I'll know how they stand up to actual use on the road. the basketcase is almost complete!!!!! (thanks in a large part to the folks on this site!)
