Dunno `bout uses for yarn & such, but good recipies, I do miss green grass fattened kiwi lamb though , yes.. mmmmm, the Aussie lamb is generally hogget that tastes a bit earthy, like they`ve been eating too much dirt, but when you see their paddocks..well no, surprise really..
I like to keep up, & there's not much here on N.Z. otherwise, unless Ruapehu is going up - or Christchurch is going down...or Don Key is braying something stupid..again..

All we hear about Aussie is " the wages are better" ..." Economy is better"....
45 000 New Zealanders left to go there....who knows what my kids will do......

& the bloody rest mate, add another zero...
But one day, I`ll be back, for sure, & I`ve kept my citizenship...so they cant keep me out..
N.Z. roads/distances are pretty bloody good for motorcycling, & thats what this thread is about...

Live in NZ, work in Aus like i do from time to time!!!
I lived and worked in Aus for 13 years, move back to NZ after 7 years in the Pacific, (after Aus)now back in Kiwi, with ocasional works trips to the West Coast.
Looking at doing the same in 2013
Best of both worlds
Regards Mike

I lived overseas for 10 years on and off, I miss Europe....catching a ferry and being in a different country....
Saying that having a lot of fun with the classic racing at the moment, few ideas on the boil for next season. :D

John, what ideas, perhaps a Norton race bike?
Spinning my wheels here in India, frustrated as I am not home getting Bike#2 ready for the start of the race season 2013 or Xmas !!!
Regards Mike

Johnm - next time you're heading to MBoro with poser tank give me a yell. I won't be the only poser then. Cheers Richard

Seems like every NZer on here is living somewhere else. !!

Id be happy to go for a ride over the hill Richard.

But right now Im sitting in a little town on the east Coast of the Caspian Sea - in Kazakhstan. So it will be a year or two before I go for another ride to the Wairarapa.

John

Got all inspired and did the whangmomana ride a week ago... We have a Bach at Pukawa so rode up there from home, and then set off with Mrs-on-back. Via Taumaranui. Was worried about the poseur tank - so took a couple Primus Petrol bottles. As it was We went the round trip (Taumaranui-Whanga-Taumaranui) on main tank and still had a bit over a litre to spare before reserve. 65mpg?

Great hotel - stayed over the night and met a few locals... Compulsory riding backwards and forwards thru tunnel for the soundfx.

They have Republic day at end of January. Would be a good excuse for another ride....

No probs on bike at all. Though we did bottom out a few times over the bumps on Whanga road. Investigating stronger springs now!

Cheers

Just got back from South Island and miss it already. Wish I had my bike when I was there :)

Have you tried the Taihape -Naiper road, I beleive its sealed loosely all the way through now, I say loosely because they used pea metal that doesn't stick very well, but its a Orsome ride, 50km open sweeping farm land at each end of the 50km mountain section, marginal on roadster tank

Splatt... Is that the road via Erehwon? (Oh to live somewhere called nowhere). Haven't tried yet but always been curious when blasting past on way to Vinegar Hill. Roadster doing about 200km on main tank. Sould be fine as long as there's gas at other end. A couple of 1 litre Primus brand fuel bottles go in my backpack nicely which is another 50km before reserve.

No problems for a roadster, we did it in Nov and the roadster with us filled at Waiouru and refilled at Clive.
Great road but now that it is fully sealed the heavy traffic is giving it a bit of a hard time, need to watch out for random humps and hollows on the older sealed sections.

Yes, if you are in the Vinegar Hill area riding about, Ashurst, Pohongina, Apiti, and out to Mangaweka back down to Vinegar Hill, excellent round trip
