Voltage output with Sparx alternator

The battery ended up taking a full change and seems to be holding it. Wired the assimilator to one of the 3 yellow wires and now the warning light come on when the key's turned on and then goes out when the bike's running. so it looks like all is well. famous last words for someone with and Norton. thanks again.

This was my situation 1500 miles ago when I first fitted the Sparx setup. Then the assimilator warning light started just glowing all of the time after 1200 miles and now I've checked the voltage output with a digital multimeter the reading is ok at 2000 rpm at about 13.5 volts but when I get to 3000 rpm it is giving 16.7 volts with no sign of stopping increasing. I have the 5 kilo ohm plug caps and the headlight was on. My question is: Was the regulator ok when I first installed it and the assimilator has damaged it, or was the regulator always allowing overcharging and this is what has damaged the assimilator? I assume the main problems with overcharging is that the bulbs can blow and the battery could boil dry.

I don't know if it's possible to say whether one was damaged by the other or not but personally I would be more concerned about the excess voltage damaging the electronic ignition (if fitted?).

Someone correct me or confirm me.

The assimilator, if failed will do so in the N/C (normally closed) position causing the warning light to remain on, charging or not. If functional, the stator will allow anough current at required RPM to energize assimilator internals to open the contact and turn the warning light off.

Your situation is either a fail assimilator or improperly connected,
