Sadly, we seem to be forgetting a part of the puzzle here...

Manufacturers (in China or anywhere else) can only survive by selling crap quality IF the market buys it!

The sad fact is NOT that China makes crap quality... It is that the majority of the buying public cannot see beyond the end of their noses... And buy the bloody stuff!

Of course, you are right to a degree John. However, it is often not that simple. Setting up ops abroad costs money, new factory to build, new workforce to hire, loads of ex pats required to be sent out on very expensive terms, etc. then when you're up and running, you have a long supply chain you can't control, a million 'middle men' to go through for everything, and less control of quality.
This is why, more and companies are relocating back 'home'. The hourly rate is definitely much lower, but just about every other aspect is higher. The balance on the bottom line is not always as obvious as first thought.

Anyway, my comment was more about the topic of poor quality, irrespective of source, and the fact that the buying public are actually to blame for their huge eagerness to buy crap to save a buck!

That is the bottom line. Isn't it? Thirty years ago, I recall U.S. consumers ignoring the admonition not to buy cheap foreign made goods versus U.S. made goods. The almost standard reply was, what difference does it make? Most of those very same consumers are now regretting their shortsightedness.

The green color on G81's Interstate is PPG 933022, Ford W6. Ford name is Green Gem and its from the 2013 line up

Really awesome in person. Very deep green that almost turns to black at certain angles. One of the best grreens I have seen

"G81' picked it out (nice job on finding a great color) and we just identified and applied it

I often tell my customers to drive around new car lots to look at the colors in real life (as opposed to looking through paint chip books). There are so many nice colors out there that will look great on these machines. You see them on a car in different lighting and angles and you get a really good idea of what it will look like applied to the bike

Thanks Matt.
The deep green would be a great colour for my MK3 Interstate and not too shocking of a change from the Black/Gold that's on there now.

I still remember the phone call, and astonished/slightly negative tone in your voice when I told you I wanted to paint the Interstate the color of a Ford pick up LOL

I have had nothing but compliments on the color and the quality of the paint job

It does sound funny in words...but it's an awesome color. Very rich and deep. Probably looks better on your Commando than on the Ford truck :D

Well I haven't visited CNW but my credit card has been a recent visitor. My original plan was to send them my outer gearbox cover for the seal fix and maybe the spit polish. Next thing I know I purchased one of Matt's Billet Primary Covers.. I'd post a picture but I'd probably get investigated for posting pornography. Think I'll sign off now and go rub it down with yet another coat of Simichrome.

I just have to jump in and agree with everyone who sends cNw and Matt himself up into the heavens, they do a stunning job, no doubt. But I just have to get this out before my T-shirt bursts of pride: The guy isn´t American, he´s an emigrant SWEDE! Not saying that it couldn´t have been done by an American, not at all, but he´s SWEDISH!
GO SWEDEN!  Aaaaah, that felt great, just had to get it out of my system  .
Tommy
PS don´t get me wrong now, this is not an attack on the US. DS

Wow! I can't believe it's been a year since we were in Colorado visiting Matt and Jim.

It was inspiring for me at a time when I was still recovering from surgery and had been down health wise for a while.

Since then I finished the shop and today I am building a rolling platform for the Norton.

I plan on working on the wiring harness before I tear the bike down for painting. Making a complete harness with fuse block and relays. Trying to figure out how to rid the headlight of most of the wires...well at least some of them.

If you get the chance, take the trip to visit CNW it's awesome and thinking now Matt is likely done with construction :D

Tommy,

Thats right....that Blue and Yellow blood will always run through my veins. Havent been back since -92 but planning on a trip in the spring (unless ISIS start targeting Swedish planes)

Dennis,

The shop is in fact done. Finally have some room to work with and it feels good.
