A lot can be achieved with throw over bags and bungees...

The tank bag became a nuisance on the tank - had to take it off 2 or three times a day to refuel, so it ended up strapped on the back seat. Even had room for a 35mm camera.

I also had a BMW as a loaner once, an R100RT complete with huge full fairing etc.

Huge respect to the police motorcyclists who ride about on bikes that size all day & in traffic.
I took an R1250GS on tour round Wales and Scotland this year. 3,200 miles. Several cities, filtering in traffic etc. The hard panniers were fine, no problem. Also, a good thing about the BMW boxer twins, is how low they carry their weight. So, very manoeuvrable at slow speeds.

Here's my camping set up on the Commando.

That setup looks really good and functional
I see your rack triangulates to the footrest hangers, this is how my rack works
It's also how the craven rack works
I'd urge anyone that is thinking of carrying any serious weight on the back to do the same
I'm not clever enough to do the maths but I know a 10lb weight strapped on the rear frame loop does not remain 10lb when you hit a pot hole at 50 mph let alone 90 mph
I have seen so many seat loop droop commandos over the years why would anyone risk it for the sake of a couple of support bars

Agree. This is the AN version, which comes from Hepco & Becker. I already had the cases from a previous bike. Still not cheap though. It doesn't use H&B's quick detach system, so it leaves the rack and pannier frame on, when cases are removed, which is a bit of a shame.

I have the same setup from AN , but in black and it doesn't catch the eye the same as the chrome when the panniers aren't fitted, I too already had the panniers from a previous bike.
