Yeh, surfdog.

I think that is why you don't see more or these on Nortons. I bought one and could see all the work necessary to make it work. You did good, wavelobo.

Unveiling......

Sold off the fairing, pipes and peashooters, rearsets.
Slated to be installed are some chrome modern T100 Bonneville shocks.
Coming up for sale will be the "before" fiberglass tank and those rusty Vintage Koni shocks.
Corbin seat is out being recovered before deciding to use or sell

Here is a page I just threw up with more details on the cosmetics:

Very Very Nice, Surfdog. Nice and purdy.

I beleive the taillight is available at Raber's in San Jose.

BMWBob: Picture was out near Hollister?

Ok, there's the motivation to get on with my rebuild. Finished the head so it's time to dig into the cases.

Just noticed something SurfDog - how'd you stop the header pipes from bluing up?

Well Davamb,
Swoosh is partailly right. The pics were taken with low miles on the pipes. Maybe 50.
I'm at about 90 now and still clean so fingers crossed they stay sweet looking.
The pipes I took off were not really blue either.
Some tinges of blue and straw gold too but really light.
Check the "before" pic earlier in the thread. Eh?
I guess some bikes blue em up and some dont.
It depends on how rich or lean and how hot or cool you run.
J dog

I heard if you spray the insides with high temp paint, it prevents bluing. Never tried it, just heard. I never minded the blue....

Yep,
On my 2008 T-100 Bonneville I had the Dealer (So. Seas, Oahu) coat the inside of the header with Kreem Heat Shield product.
He sent me pics of the tech applying it. This was before he ever started the machine. They still blued to the first bend.
I read somewhere its how hot they get, depending on the richness or leaness of the jetting. Lean I guess it runs hotter so more blueing.
I've been told my Commando is slightly rich, so maybe thats cooler enough to prevent the dreaded blue monster from taking a dump on yer pipes.
Funny though, my BSA has no blueing either. New pipes, yes, but the old ones I took off weren't blue either.
Just pitted from years of salt in the hawaiian air.
I swear I'm gonna wipe down my pipes after every ride from now on, after they cool that is. ha haeha ha oww!
Big ride last week over here. 13 riders up Waimea Canyon and back, 165 miles round trip for me. Norton wasn't done yet.
I rode the T-100.

Tommorow nite (sat.) Classic car gig with 50's rock n roll and BBQ at the Maka 'iwa hotel. About 30 cars expected to show.
The organizer told me its for the "Movie people". We got a bunch movies filming on Kauai right now and during this summer.
Which ones you ask?
George Clooney and "The Descendants" just wrapped up.
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston is wrapping "Just Say Anything" this week. (carshow/party).
Johnny Depp and his band of pirates are coming to make Kauai look like the Carib.
And a slew of othe pics too. Lets not forget that "Hawaii 5-O" premieres in the fall on CBS.
Mostly filmed on Oahu though, but I bet they make it to the neighbor islands once in a while too.

Love the Bike its beautiful!.I don't know what part of it I like the most, it really ties together really well.Any legal issues with absence of indicators?

Nice job lovely bike.
Watch the land sharks :D
My pipes blued and yellowed unavoidable w/ some.
It looks like the Philippines, I was stationed in the Philippines in 1986.
Riding must be out of this world in HI.
Marshal

Hey thanks guys.

Speirmoor,
Turn signals are not formost in the authorities minds over here.
I think they figure they never were on the bike, so they can't require them.
Hawaii is fairly lax when it comes to motor vehicle enforcement.
Unless your blatantly breaking the law and then scoffing it.

Marshall,
Hawaii (Kauai) is a great place to visit... but I WOULD want to live there! (28 yrs now).
My island of Kauai is quite small.
Two lane blacktops and single lane bridges. Watch out!
Not a 4 lane road anywhere on the island! That i can think of anyway.
We are lacking places to ride though. Same old same old.
I have this one ride I take from my house.
First up this one side road towards the mountains.
Mostly untraveled, never traffic. Long sweeping turns where you can see way out in front of you.
70 mph is exciting!
Then back down and off to another side road.
My version of the twisties. 26 turns strung together with a couple of hairpins and quick left rights.
Never any traffic, and if there is, its a tourist who's lost his way. Easily passed.
Make a uturn at the end and do em again going the the other way.
String all that together and it takes about an hour and around 62 miles.
Easily done after work or surfing. maybe I'll shoot you a GoogleEarth Map of it.

Me pipes have about 90 miles on em now and there is a very faint straw color starting to develop.
Fingers crossed, as I know theres little or nothing you can do about it.

Joe dog.

All that comes up Swoosh is the whole island. Some might say: Thats close enough. haha.

But hey I'm in the tourism business! I gotta give you the low down.
Using that map of Kauai, locate these spots!
My turf is the North side of Kauai.
My office is in Hanalei.
I surf in Hanalei Bay.
I live in Princeville.
I ride from Princeville to Kealia.
And back is about 62 miles round trip.
I hit all the back roads there is only a few.
If your zooming in on Google maps (I prefer the 3D of Google Earth).
Look for these roads: Kahiliholo rd. and Koolau rd.
Tour those in Google earth and you'll get the idea.
Its all I got in my neighborhood and I know them like the back of my hand.
There are a lot more twisty ones but they are either trafficed out or further away from home and take a day trip to enjoy.
Like Waimea Canyon on the west side. Wow now thats a cool twisty miles and miles of road.
You can find that one too if your zooming in.
But I'm sure its nothing like the diversity of most mainland locales.

As far as camping out in my front yard, its a possibility, but you'd be more comfortable renting a room.
Have you checked my web pages for Kauai?
http://www.napaliprop.com
A lotta content there.
Look at the 3D tours and just concentrate on the north side, you'll be impressed.

Got the new shocks on my bike last night.
How do they look now? Schweet!

Ludvig,
Nah,
I hate to leave it ever.
When the wife wants to go an vacation, I dread leaving.
Once we do go, both of us are counting the days and then hours of our return.
Its the perfect "Ivory Tower", my own "Private Idaho".
Away from all the hustle and bustle of the real world.
With its crush of people and machines, and its 21st century mass media and electronic synapsises.
Yeh its rural. yep its uncrowded. I can still reach out and touch people as far away as belgium with unique tastes in Motorcycles.
I can leave and expose myself to the outrageous misfortunes of others. But I try to keep that a rare event.
Sometimes I picture the possible newspaper headlines about my vacation:

SURFER FROM SMALL ISLAND HIT BY BUS
or
NORTON ENTHUSIAST SHOT BY WOULD BE ROBBERY SUSPECT
as opposed to if I stay home
SURFER WITNESSES SHARK ATTACK

haha lol
jjddoogg
ps: have you seen kauai?
