Can someone please tell me what this component taped under the main frame tube is? It is too corroded to make out any markings. Bike has Boyer ignition.

Probably the assimilator if the wires are red, white/brown and green/yellow as that's the area it would normally be but suspended from a spring.

Thanks. Not sure what it is assimilating but am looking forward to eliminating all this on my project bike and on a future rebuild of this one hopefully.
 
These units do go bad. If it works, you could just leave it. But there are better alternatives to a direct replacement.

Thread 'Charge indicator/warning light assimilator function. 1973 850 Commando'

I'm refreshing my red 73' this winter. The only electrical component that does not function is the charge warning light. I tested the bulb and it is good. New 3 phase stator is sending 14 plus V to the battery. i haven't check continuity from the assimilator to the light itself. My question is, if indeed the assimilator unit is bad, will it give me problems down the road if I just leave it in place rather than replace it? Thanks for your replies!
