Just booked the flight June 13-25. Flying into Dublin, then on to Stansted. Spend time in Lakenheath, then trains and ferry back to Dublin.

Now what is there MC related to see around Lakenheath, London and on the trip back to Dublin? People, Places? Preferable route? Any autojumbles going on then?

Any suggestions welcomed.

You must spend a day at the National Motorcycle Museum - its in Solihull (between Birmingham and Coventry) about 60 miles North West of London, off the M42 highway. Pretty much anywhere in the Midlands is easy to get to by train or coach.

Allow a whole day and take spare digi cam batteries, you won't believe the sheer amount and quality of bikes on display.

Gotta go to Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral if you get the chance. Watch the driving there. It is nuts. And bring a lot of money for gas (petrol).

Have a good trip. It will be an appetizer, since you won't be there long enough for a full meal! There's so much history, it would take at least a 3-month visit to see just a small part of it.

I concur with the recommendation to go to the Motorcycle Museum. That's been set up since we emigrated and will be on my list next time we go over. The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, is also well worth a visit.

In most cases, I wouldn't bother with renting a car. Trains and express Inter-city buses are the best way to go. Driving on the opposite side of the road can be a real risk if you've never done it before. Beaar in mind that gasoline is roughly the equivalent of $8 a US gallon.

You can see my Dreer norton in there
I sold to them a few years back

Sounds like a great trip. One suggestion, although I don't know where you are sailing from, can you change the ferry sailings when you go back to Dublin and divert to the Isle of Man? You can spend a day or a few hours soaking up the atmosphere, if you haven't been before it is a lovely place. Treat it like a reccie for if or when you go to the TT :D

Unfortunately I will not have much time to do the things I want, the wife and kids have other plans. So I am trying to figure out what I can see near where their things are. We are going to Stonehenge, 20 minutes from Andover, so I'm going to try to stop in there.

I'm sure you would enjoy the London Motorcycle Museum details www.london-motorcycle-museum.org

Bill Crosby has some great stuff in there including a sectionalised Rocket 3 motor and the P1 Trident prototype .
Maybe while in london visit Ace cafe, there's always something going on.
Enjoy your stay, and bring an umbrella !

Hi from Dublin. Just read your post. I looked at the events calendar and there's not much on MC related in the last week in June in and around Dublin. From your post, do I take it you will be spending most of your time in Britain rather than Ireland and you will be going back to Dublin in time to catch your flight home?

The Dales are certainly worth seeing. We had a week to spare at the end of our trip, so we found a nice b&b in Skipton, then went out exploring all 5? Of the Dales.

UK trip, finally happening.

We will have about a day and a half in Dublin before returning home. We were going to fly into Belfast and go see the giants feet,
but the unrest has my already worry some wife bothered so we are scrapping that idea. So it's back to Dublin.

If you did decide to go to the Giants Causeway, you would not have any problems. International news reports blow these things up out of proportion.

If you have time to kill in Dublin, and you're limited to public transport, it's an old city with plenty of history and things to do. If you decided to rent a car for the day, there are some beautiful places that are an hour's drive away or less, e.g some big old country houses open to the public, and a National Park. PM me if you want some pointers.

Maybe the Ace Cafe while in London? While in Dublin definitely try the Guinness there and fish and chips from Burdocks. Depending what weekend you are there Croke park may be open

I went to the Ace Cafe in 2011 and it was just OK as there was a small car event happening and not much else...definitely check out the schedule first before visiting (unlike me), all sorts of events there

The trip is coming up quickly, we leave Friday night out of Chicago. Should be settled in Lakenheath by dinner time, Saturday.

Going on Sunday to a Fathers day Car show, should be interesting.

Other than that I haven't been able to fit anything else in. I hope I can stumble apon a few things, London is my best bet for this.

There's a cool old British Bike place not too far away in Suffolk called "Andy Tiernan Classics". It's a fantastic old-fashioned British 'toy shop' to have a walk around if you have some free time and it looks like he has some Nortons in his current inventory.

My brother lives in Diss, not too far away
Have a great trip!
