I was reading the forum awhile back ,and found quite a few posts on tyres. Now that I need some advice I cant seem to find any. I have only ever run TT100's or avon roadrunners. Any one had a good experience with any particular tyres
Thanks

IMHO if you ever try the new Avon AM26 road riders you will NEVER again use the old style TT100 dunlop's or roadrunners. this assumes you are running stock size wheels. I run a 100/90 rear and 90/90 front as I like the quicker stearing with the smaller front tyre but the 100/90 on the front is OK

I run Bridgestone BT-45s at the suggestion of Matt Rambow at CNW. They're excellent tires.

At replacement time, though, I'm thinking about a set of Pirelli Sport Demons. Just put a set on the Eldo and they're, as we say around here, wicked pisser awesome!

Thanks for the replies, looks like the avons are fairly popular, I think thats the way I'll go
Let me know how the scorpions go if you fit them

Nothing to be sorry for, I've heard excellent reviews on the Avons. I'm just a Pirelli kinda guy.

Yes, I will report once I've tried 'em. Given the "BattleAxes" have only a few thousand on them, could be a while.

Best of luck to you - Brian

I believe Pirelli and Bridgestone don't make 100/90x19 for front and back, right?

What about 100/90x19 Avon AM26 fit on the front of a '72 roadster? The fender is a bit narrower than the later stainless.

Thanks

I have an 18" rear, and just got the Demon in that size for my Eldo. Have to see what they make for the front, but as I said, I got quite a while to wait first.

Edit - just checked, you can get a 100/90-19 in the Demon.

should not be an issue if you have the stock WM 2 rim on it now. if it is than save it for a spare rear and drop to the 90/90 on the front besides all the 72's I have seen came with the 410 front as the earlier bikes had the smaller 325 front and narrower fender.
The only rear tyre's in a 19 is the dunlop k 81, Avon roadrunner and AM 26 road rider IIRC

The 100/ 90 -19'' may be to tight on the narrow fender as it only just really fits under my 850 and I couldn't find a 90/90 -19'' at the time

I am running 19" rims WM2 on the front and WM3 rear rim.

does the WM3 rim change the profile of the AM26 much :?: alloying more use of the '' chicken strips'' :?:

Howdy,
Yes it just fattens out the rear tyre.
I am led to beleive that all Triumphs of the 73 era came standard with WM3 rims?
When I went to the wheel rebuilder it was his best advice to put WM3 rear rim and when he put stainless spokes on the back he went to a thicker guage based on the fact that I/the royal wee do at least half of our annual mile two up!

Quote from Ray Holmes the local Norton Guru "If you can outride a 19" Avon on a Commando you should be riding for a job!"

cheers

My Commando has an eighteen inch rear wheel. The bike is shod with Metzler Lasertec on the bike and an ME33 on the front. Highly recomend these tires, they stick to the road better than anything else that I have used.

I have BT-45s on my Commando, with a 19" front wheel and 18" rear. Installed by and at the recommendation of Matt Rambow.

I'm still going for Pirellis next time - not that I've had any complaints with the BT-45s.

I run 19 inch X 2.5 inch rims and AM 26 Avons which is what the tyres were made for. It's a big jump from the standard 1.85 inch standard rims but if you rode my bike you would not even consider going to 18 inch rims. My setup would put more usable rubber on the road than any 2.15 inch (WM3) and 120 section tyre.

Stick to 19s.
