Seeking advice on an "oh dear!" moment

I was thinking of making some "crescent moon" shaped inserts for the cradle slots so the gearbox would be fixed in the correct location for the belt... Anyone know of any flaws in that idea?
I have done this a couple of times. It takes FOREVER. Do you have unusually long thin fingers? Do you have infinite patience? Do you have a lift table to work on? This could take several hours especially if you're trying to align a belt drive.

I am not afraid of accuracy. My entire vocational career was about accuracy..
Then you should also adress the sloppy fit of the bolts that hold the gearbox case.
I press steel bushes in the lugs and use thinner, tight fitting bolts.
M12 top and M 10 lower.
Not relevant for this thread, but on my Commando I have an alloy engine cradle with no adjustment for the belt. Except: the ss bushes with top hat in the plates are slightly excentric ( 0.25 mm) to allow for machining errors.
