Triumph Trident T160

Triple bypass is good... Just make sure they don't upgrade to 'smart' motorway.... Not good!!

Seriously though, hope it all works out well, still awaiting the Mikuni road test ;-)

You and me both. I am impressed how quickly and easily it will start and go to an idle - and obviously I’ve not been anywhere yet :( It doesn’t matter, they’re both an appreciating classic - that what I’ve told the memsahib;)

Sorry to hear about your ailment. Hopefully everything works out for you.
In the meantime, that's a Fine looking T-160!!!
Congrats....

I know of too many people waiting, often in pain, for hip and knee replacement. Another friend is now waiting for repair of a surgery gone wrong for two months...and he went private!

Following in from sensible advice already given on here, I’ve acquired a few bits and pieces to start off with. I realise the bike is perfectly acceptable to ride right now, it fires up in the button and idles nicely - but I can’t leave things alone. Ever. It’s clearly not a Spanish import as there’s a sticker under the seat Assen Motos - so Dutch it is then.

so far I’ve got this

genuine workshop manual and parts list - always good to be able to look up part numbers and do the checks online
oil pressure gauge kit - does anyone have a spare tailored pod to fit the circular gauge?
sump plate with drain plug
lifting handle unit
some replacements for perished rubber bushes.

I will need a pair of mirrors, perhaps Shepton Mallet next week can find me a pair? And a left hand switchgear to replace the scored one.

Good list.

An 850 kit and a second front disc and you’re good to go…:)
I will want sensible advice which 2nd disc kit to go for when it comes time. I’ve got extremely good single disc on the Commando that will squeal the front tyre easily, almost a 2 finger brake -

I will not want more engine power. It simply isn’t needed, nothing will ever come close to my LSR turbo Busa road bike with its 525bhp, and I know I will be very happy with ‘only’ whatever this one has

You are probably right of course. Especially given the originality and low mileage of your stunner.

But just for clarity, an 850 kit on an otherwise stock engine adds little, if any, real top end power.

What it does do is add twin style grunt whilst maintaining the triple style scream.

Certainly adds to the riding pleasure IMHO.

The double disc gives much better feel as a 13mm master does with the Norton. But you could get a 13mm master kit for it.
LP Wms and others sell the slider, disc and caliper with hoses splitter etc.
Agree about the 850: it is a big help at the lower rpms. Otherwise basically you find yourself riding around above 4k rpm as there isnt all that much torque less than that.

If you intend to ride it over 60mph I can see you buying rearsets, the standard footpeg position is appalling, unless you are a contortionist.

60 mph! Are you mad with all of our 20 and 30 limits these days, even the cyclists are whizzing by ;). Actually for the amount of riding I’m likely to do I think I’l be fine (famous last words) but I know what you mean.

Or:
I’m not averse to going away from stock, as my Commando shows with its Madass disc, spacer and 6 pot caliper. Will the Hyde setup require a change to the m/cylinder bore diameter?

I am sort of attracted to the LPW twin disc setup as it’s the sort of thing I’ve seen elsewhere, like on my pal’s Rob North T150, and looks very stylish. But I’ll happily look at options.

I see my rear disc has shed a lot of its chrome plating, and so that’s an item due for change if it doesn’t work well - in which case I’d really want to get front and rear with similar profiles - unless you know better :)

Not necessarily although a 13mm master cylinder is likely to be an improvement as I would expect it to be with the original single Lockheed disc and calliper.

It wasn't my intention to put you off twin discs only suggesting an alternative as I have twin discs on my T160 with the standard 5/8" master cylinder, braided hoses and Grimeca* callipers, however, some owners prefer to fit the 0.70" master cylinder for twin-discs. Grimeca at the rear also.

There have been a few bad reports about the Girling (Wassell) AP calliper copies.

*(Also had twin original Lockheeds with the modified LH calliper on the RH side. No difference in braking but the Grimecas are significantly lighter than the Lockheeds!)

The lack of chrome plating is generally considered a benefit although there are lightweight drilled/floating discs available.
