Thanks, the CNW coil is only so expensive because of the postage to the UK,and then no doubt, when it gets here the UK taxman will want his cut as well!.

It's $152.95US plus shipping here. Not inexpensive IMO, but pretty to look at.

I'm not a CNW customer. I got my little dual e-coil at Dime City Cycles where I also bought velocity stacks for my Mikuni carburetors. Not a Norton or British cycle exclusive shop by any means.

I switched from a trispark to a boyer micro digital last year. yes I have fought kickback issues with it. I have 5K resistor caps as asked for in the instructions than i also put on resistor wires although it was not a complete 100% cure it is not as common. I have had it give a slight kickback and start on the same kick.

So, anyone know if the Boyer Micro Digital kicks back in real use, and if the ignition really can start a motor with lower voltage than 12V as Boyer states?

Thanks Bill

I think I may have come close to a slight kickback and start, but because my battery is a little low for the Boyer MkIII the fire always goes out. I'm short, and have a messed up left leg from dirt biking on a Bultaco many moons ago, so I tend to have a off balance whimpy kick once in a while. I almost always know I'm in for the dreaded kick back when it happens. I'll probably go with the if it aint broke don't fix it routine and leave the Boyer MkIII in place.

when I had the trispark it was a better starter with NO kickback. the reason for the change was after the third one failed I was done with it, the last one did not last as long as the rear tire and thats a 3500 mile tire life. I am still thinking about the trispark fire box pro but the dollar amount is kind of a put off and no one on here has any real experience with it other than one that never put real miles on it.

PS after the first one failed I ALLWAYS had a spare stator with me which kept me off the trailer.

And your spare is now installed on my bike and working perfectly, thank you :) Only 500 miles on it, so we'll see (yep, I carry another one too).
An interesting note on the TS Classic Twin EI - I had an electrical short that blew the main fuse on my bike (blinker switch short). The TriSpark got me home even with the alternator dropping to 7-1/2 volts at idle.

I always liked the way mine started and ran with the trispark. it is a fantastic unit in that respect but with the lack of reliabilty I and others i know have had along with the cost of the first one and 3 replacment stators a was no longer willing to trust it anymore or spend anymore money on it. I am still thinking hard on the firebox pro but I would like to hear from someone with high mile usage but with the cost i had in the classic twin i could have bought the firebox.

I don't like it much, but I can live with the Boyer kickback. It doesn't happen unless I don't put enough leg in the kick, and only when cold and the battery is a little low.

What I got from reading the TriSpark related threads on this site is it may not last long on a solid mounted motor like the P11 with both a lot of vibration and heat. Then again it might, but I do not want to try it to find out.

Anyway, I'm not here to poop on TriSpark. I'm derailing the thread a little to get some information related to the later model Boyer.

I got rid of 99% of the kickback with the micro digital with resistor caps and resistor wires. with just the caps the kickback was pretty bad. the other issue i had was a set of bad lucas branded resistor caps, i found out the hard way when i reached down and got light up by one of them at 60 MPH.

Regarding heat, do the finned timing covers provide any cooling, or are they just for fashion. I personally don't care for the look, but if they help with the life of critical electronics....
