Triple Tree Color

I had mine powder coated in the 80's by a powder coater in Birmingham UK in silver, they were a grey colour before the powder coat but when I cleaned the silver powder coat in a small spot it turned grey like the original colour so I cleaned it all and now it looks like the original grey, the same grey was used on the front mudguard stays and it looks a good match. This was an 850MK2A. My current powder coater in Glasgow clear coats the silver so cleaning that does not change the finish.

I cleaned my yokes very carefully and they are a long way from "silver". Earlier, someone said they thought the silver was done to match the chrome headlight mounts (afraid to say fork ears!). Even shiny silver would be a terrible match for chrome so I don't agree with that.

I would say the intention of the silver or silver/grey colour was to make them look like (lighter and more expensive) aluminium yokes!

That makes a lot of sense to me!

Also, earlier someone said that powder coating them would obscure the cast look. Mine, except underneath, don't look cast, at least not sand cast. The areas that actually show are fairly smooth and it would be trivial to make them very smooth. So, black or silver, I'm going to powder coat them - it's plain easier for me since I have nowhere decent to paint and I'm completely setup to powder coat everything but frames.

Someone also mentioned them matching the front mudguard stays. My mudguard stays look to be original and nothing like the yokes - maybe just faded. I see from looking at pictures and brochures that they should look the same as the yokes. So, I'll probably experiment with Polished Aluminum color powder coat for the stays and yokes so they match the fork sliders.
