Too much smoke?

It's a little late now but never let a newly rebuilt engine sit and idle. It won't bed the rings and it's not good for the cam and lifters especially if they are new. Use some break in oil, modern synthetics are way too slick. First start up on stand keep above 2000 rpm for about 5 minutes to get up to operating temps. Shut down, when cool retorque head bolts, adjust valves. Second startup, adjust timing, rough adjust carbs, take it for a ride. Don't ride at a steady pace but lots of speeding up and slowing down. Change oil and filter at 100 miles and retorque head bolts and adjust valves. Keep rpm below 4000 first 500 miles.

Here’s a little peek of what I’ve been up to.

Just a thought!
If the plugs are clean and there's no sign of oil in the combustion chamber there must be a good chance the oil is coming down an exhaust valve?

I think @JCD would see smoke out the exhaust if that were the case.
I think (as others have said) the bike needs a run out to bed in the rings, then a head re-torque.

Good advice. Plus retorque the head bolts again at max 100 miles when cold. Recheck valve clearance.

Still wondering if the crankcase breather hose and the oil tank vent hoses are connected correctly. See posts #3 and #8. Since there is no exhaust smoke, and since oil burning does not look like the video, that looks like crankcase vent mist and there should be none visible coming from the oil tank vent.

This all assumes that "this is a 750r oil tank I should add" from post #5 means a standard right-side oil tank - I don't know what "750r" means.

A picture showing the hoses from above would be nice.

If the breather plumbing is wrong and crank case pressure is recirculating in the engine, the engine will struggle at higher RPM when out riding. It would also more than likely blow or leak a lot from the crank main seal. It won't be that noticeable in the garage lightly blipping the throttle.

Mist is condensation vapor and means nothing other than it's cold outside.

No one said anything like "crankcase pressure recirculating in the engine"! It does make a difference where the crankcase vent connects to the oil tank but even if wrong, the crankcase will vent.

See post #2 about condensation and his follow-up on post #5. Personally, it seems like condensation to me, but he says no time so to move on from that.

Wasn't directing my comment at anything you typed up being right or wrong. I just happened to insert my comment after you made your comment. I stay in my own lane and JCD mentioned looks like mist. I prefer to comment to the OP not other members. I actually don't care much what other people have to say. It's one of my many super powers. :)

Stoicism .

Indeed. I read the messaged and later in the day the idea popped into my head completely forgetting the smoke was coming from the breather. My only excuse is I'm over 75 and suffering a little brain fade.
