In the 80's I was offered a new Ducati Paso (with all the track only toys) by a dealer for my '73 850 and $3,000.00. the cost of maintaining a Duke kept me from taking it.

So...........does this mean no one is going to walk up and offer me 10k for my Norton?

Your a cruel, cruel man, Pete.V.

I had no idea that we could get rid of Pete for a measly ten grand, plus get to keep his bike. Get some decent twin Amals on there and it could be quite respectable.
Should we start a funding campaign?

Don't bother riding it the way he sold it, as its only got a 44 mm single carbie so chokes down before the fun begins and bogs at every green light, sheeze, so must discount for a pair of new carbs to have something.

are you saying you would take 10g's for yours
I probably would, old timers disease is getting to me. But maybe I can push it off another 5-10 years, who knows?

There's a lot of money around Middleburg.

Amen!

The early 80s were the days of 18% savings deposit rates. Even Government bonds paid 16%, and that was locked in for thirty years!
I recall renewing a term deposit in 1998 for five years and getting 9 % compounding.
Today the bank is paying 2.8% on the same type of deposit.
So for 1982 til now, I am guessing the average rate received would work out at around 9%.
Based on that, the 3,000 invested in 1982 in no risk term Bank term deposits would now be worth ........drum roll.......

$47,238!

40mm carbie. TM40-6 (HS40)

Crapola worntorn If we only knew how freaking diluted the money would become. With that calculator in mind Commandos at going rates are a lossing investment.

No, provided my 9% average figure is correct, the money would be worth exactly $47,238.00. It is called the power of compound interest.
Given the high interest rates thru the 80s and 90s, I believe 9% is probably a bit of a low estimate for an average.
Of course to reach that point the $3,000 initial investment would need to be placed in a tax sheltered plan, ie 401k ,rrsp, tax free savings etc.
