Time side can be loose as a goose according to famous expert Mr. John Hudson who takes sand paper to TS crank till a ball bearing slips on and off by hand and smiles at his success. Can be brought back to spec by fairly expensive chrome plate or more realistic and cheaper copper plate then ground to spec if not already just by plating.
I'd check with electric motor shops, see what they offer.

Hobot - are you suggesting my timing side journal might be OK as it is?

Well I decided to put it back together with new rod bearings, a better oil pump and not much else. I know the crank is a bit on the dodgey side but I think it's "good enough" for now. In any event I'm sure I'll learn something. I'll post more as I reassemble.

Got most everything cleaned up and painted. Main bearings are in the cases.



So I started to put the crank back together but was stopped short by this defective part.
