Terminology

I work in aerospace and have done for 35 years. In the vein of its a small world I started working for Marconi Elliotts based in Rochester UK and they still occupy the factory hangars where the Short Stirling bombers were made during WW2. As crusader correctly stated, Shorts moved out to Belfast to get out of range of the Luftwaffe. Marconi Elliott became part of GEC and then part of BAE Systems in the late 90s. They are still at Rochester and are still supplying flight control computers to the major a/c manufacturers. It might surprise the forum members used to fighting with Norton electrical systems that most of you have flown on an a/c which is being kept in the sky with British fly by wire technology
I left Rochester in 1985 but still work for BAE, but in Seattle. While at Rochester I got my ppl and flew out of both Rochester and Headcorn airfields which were both WW2 Battle of Britain era grass strips.
Working in aerospace exposes you to a lot of design requirements that take care of "if it can go wrong it will go wrong" and I find this is an especially useful outlook to have when living with Nortons.

I got to freak out like 30 people on one of these island hoppers when pilot handed controls to me while he was writing his log with wide eye'd passengers a gok with me having their life in my hands but didn't crash nose down in beach or snag brush and crash trying to get up in time like the 2 flights prior.

I have my Single engine land rating, but I'm not current at the moment. Just working on Blackhawks over here to try and pay off some of the bills.

Steve - Lucky that the already nervous passengers didn't know your signature was "Throw yourself at the ground and miss"

I was schedued to fly with a Nepalese airline as part of a motorcycling trip thru Nepal via Royal Enfield 500, however I had to cancel because my mother became very ill.
My friend did the trip but thought the planes were in pretty rough condition. Just after he returned home this was in the news:

cjandme,
Keep them flying. My Son-in-Law is a Dust Off pilot over there.
I flew mostly attack helicopters for 26yrs, 5 months and 15 days.
IP/SP/ME and Armament/Maintenance Officer. Retired as a W4.

Saber I missed out on Viet Nam Air Force d/t my intolerance of regimentation and a few other mean reasons so went monk route in that era. Got flown in helo's with crop duster pilot so got good idea of the G's and pitch overs you got to live. I down wind stalled my only ultra light first time out d/t dust devil sneaking up behind while going with the wind to try to lose lift even idling the too big engine. Just as I was able to drop enough to swing around into wind to land plane tail was lifted vertical about telephone pole height.

Which brings up another terminology subdivison what words do you utter right before the white lightening or black out hits? My ultra light words were Oh Wow
My cycle stuff is often over so fast the word come out after the strike, just before the pain hits, so maybe just be loud scream half insane anger half insane pain.

If there were 30 people in that DH Twin Otter, it would have been very crowded. There are quite a few Twin Otters on floats flying regular scheduled trips along the Vancouver Island coast out of Victoria.

Getting back to the Short's airplanes, was the 3-30 the one with twin fins and the 3-60 with the big single fin?

Correct. 3-30 twin tail, 3-60 conventional tail.

40% of the lift is generated by the fuselage. Very sturdy design.

well how much prop wash will I kneed to clean my machine???
& does anyone know where I can get about 50' of1/4 in flight line ???
