tach/speedometer cleaning, calibration, repair....

hey my friends. I want to get my original tach and speedometer cleaned, calibrated, repaired, etc.. my speedometer has cracked glass, due to a bezel dent. at a minimum, the tach needs glass cleaning. I know there are specialty shops out there - looking for RECOMMENDATIONS. thanks....

I've used 3 different vendors. Nisongers is the absolute best though pricey and sometimes a lengthy turnaround. Beware of fellow who advertises on eBay to auction reconditioned or rebuild yours.

If you are only replacing the glass and bezel, you can get replacement kits online. I also make a plexiglass circle to replace the glass so I never have to break another one. You can hand peen over the bezel because no one will see the imperfection.

There are past threads on this topic which may still be around. I had them do some work and it didn't go well. I'm not generally a complainer but they made a mistake and then tried to blame me for it. Wasn't pleasant.

Great luck with Scott at http://www.smithsgagerepair.com/. Quick turn around, fair pricing, and top notch work. I found his ad in the INOA newsletter. He did both my tach and speedo. New glass, chrome ring thingy, some magic stuff inside the outer shell, cleaned, calibrated, and the spider nest removed from the tach.

Thumbs up on Mark. Great price, great work and great guy. He has done 7 for me and I have not one complaint. You could pay twice as much at other mentioned vendors and not get any better results.

He quoted me $150 for three clocks, but when all that was needed was cleaning and check and one new glass, I think it came to a $100, IIRC. One that I thought was non-functional just needed a little longer inner and he was upfront and didn't charge for something I didn't need. If you go to Barber Vintage Fest, he has a vendor space and is a great guy to talk to.

Again, not cheap but work beyond reproach. He has done work on my various Smiths gauges and antique clocks for years.
Always lets you know beforehand the estimated cost and keeps you informed.
