Hey guys, I'm stuck 130 miles from home with a clutch slipping so badly I can't get up a hill or do more than 40 on a flat. Started this a.m. And now half way home it's unridable. Taking off from a stop requires sever pushes of me feet then it slips immediatly into a slow noisy grinding acceleration. Anything I can do on the road side? Oil lever is below check hole in primary? If no ride side fix ASAP I'll be spending the night roadside as I'm in the middle of nowhere. But I do have my pipe and a bottle of red. Any ideas would be appriciated

How'd you make out? In off the road? Triage performed?

He has to be recovering. I know I would be. I am sure he'll check in when his brain starts back up.

Ah the solitude in middle of nowhere with your best friend too sick to travel, watching and swatting bugs, listening to traffic and rustle of foliage in the breeze trying to find comfortable positions as temps drop with the sun causing a larger gap in the leaps of fate to ride a Commando again. Just part of the manhood scope needed time to time on this hobby horse.

Hey all, I did its fine under the stars. Got down to 37 degrees but made thru ok. No food or water for 24 hours, just me and my pipe, until the wife showed up with the trailer. Loaded the bike up no problem and ran to the nearest restaurant for a big lunch.
In the am when she was cold I started her up just to see , put her in gear let out the clutch and zero movement. Just some grinding noises , could get her to roll a little bit maybe 5 mph at 4000 rpm. Wish it was just a clutch cable, but afraid not.
Will get the bike to a great tech here in my area next week and will update.

Alrigthy another Commando roadside camp adventure resolved towards recovery to try it again. Likely just some gear box nip up w/o damage then off to the races again.

Glad you made it back safely, if not a little thinner
The tech you have do the work, would he be willing to allow you to sit in (assuming you have time) and see not only what failed, but how the stuff is designed and assembled? Helps a ton when things start to go wrong.

That's a great idea concourse and I'm sure he would not mind. Great guy. Hope I have time as I'd like to learn more about the commando innards as I'm a newbie with the Norton.

I'm a pipe man too to help state of timelessness pass pleasantly into the vapors. Don't waste time waiting on shop to take apart, ugh, but do make appointment once all apart and ready to assemble, which is more interesting-educational and goes a lot faster too.

I got to disagree with that. Being part of the discovery of the fault can ingrain knowledge and offer a real understanding of the nature of things. In this sence, being part of the reassemble is a double possitive.

Any mechanical aspect that Jeffmack can be a part of is crucial and a lesson he is/has unfortunately learning the hard way.
