So, you want your money back?

Oh so the penny's just dropping?

I've stated before on this forum (and had abuse for it) that "Things don't add up" !!

TT next year
Gp's next year
V4 Racer

My god, even kids don't believe fairy tales eventually!!
Building bikes would be good and honouring existing customers who've paid hard cash even better.

The Norton name seems destined to be dragged down again! Stick with the Commando's you have and enjoy them, at least they're REAL

My friend Richard, ex-Norton "Chief of Motorcycles" in the rotary era, thinks Norton fans WANT to believe the fairy tales, and to forget the real world and facts that have come to their attention that indicate the sad truth behind the story.

Naturally, every Norton fan, and I include myself, would love to see Norton's from the ashes. However, if one hears about people being rung and asked to pay up because "there is a slot for your bike to be produced next week", then the "slot" comes and goes and months later they still got no bike and communication has seized one wonders.

David, once Norton Sales Manager in the Rotary era and another friend, wrote "It reminds me of the old days at Norton in Shenstone, but at least people got their Norton Classic in the end, even if they had to wait for it." And, having been one of the people who ordered one then, I have to say communication was not a problem then. Plus, the funds behind the exercise were sufficient at the time.

And why not? You have to be more than a bit of a dreamer to put up with these bikes. Why else would we pour trillions of dollars into what are now barely practical devices?

Unfortunately I have to agree with ZFD and Gino. This is not sounding good at all. :(

How does any bike company pay back $3b in a couple of years? Would HD make that much profit in a couple of years?

Its not about profit, its all about operating expenses and usual sources of credit drying up.
$3b does seem a lot on a turnover of ~$6b, it must be said though...
You don't have to look very far to find details - HD is a publicly listed company, its all in the details. And the Gov't details are available too.

etc etc etc.

Not a good time to be starting a new motorcycle manufacturing enterprise ?

Trillions of dollars? Did I miss something? I should know, being the owner of the Genuine Norton Factory Parts source. Next time you write a cheque over trillions of dollars to pour into your Commando, Swooshdave, make sure it is made out to "Andover Norton International Ltd"!

They should just put the bloody Real Commando back in production .

Only thing that stuffed the DBS V-8 Aston was tarting it up too much.

Not that there arnt a few things a bloke wouldnt do with a new sheet
of paper if catching up on 40 years of neglected development .

But like the original ones , I wouldnt change it unless it was improveing it.
or itd be like the new model year jap stuff of that era , normally slower .

Anyone who has paid for a new Norton and isnt doing everything they can to get their money back, would seem to have been taken in by the BS surrounding the new bike, and can probably afford to lose whatever they might have paid!

For prospective new Norton buyers nice to not have to worry about losing £16k, but really very sad to have the once great name of Norton dragged through the mud by a greedy businessman, with no real interest in motorcycles!

I was told about somebody who tried last week:
"He went in person to the Donington factory to get either his bike or his long promised refund. The lady who met him at reception went into her office and locked the door behind her."
All employees should probably have offices with doors that can be locked.

Barely practical??? my Norton would be one of THE most practical bikes on the road today. I'll argue that with anybody, anyday.

Agreed!; when it breaks (not if), I can fix it myself, often at the roadside, and parts are easily available and not expensive. I can't say that about my 1098; a pain in the wrists & butt to ride, replacing cambelts of horrendously expensive, not a patch on my 850.

The guty who wanted his money back, having got there, should have persisted IMO; a mention of " winding-up order" may have made all the difference. But an agressive approach, if that is what actually happened, is never productive.

You guys are funny!

I have more money than I care to think about "invested" in my Nortons, but I think I'm only into the squillions of dollars, not trillions. I don't actually write the checks out to Andover Norton International Ltd, but that's where most of it ends up. Just received another order from OldBritts today, in fact.

Some times I feel like it's a disease, not a hobby, but they're just so much fun to ride.

Debby

It is a disease and there is no cure, but parts for Nortons aren't too bad. Try pricing parts for old Ducatis (if you can even get them). Graeme

Ouch. That's gunna hurt.

I am told that is what he does right now, i.e. he issued one.

maybe this scenario should happen?
The New Triumph acquire the new Norton and start producing the bikes en mas?
Surely Triumph has the production wherwithal and a solid dealer and service network.
Triumph has seemed to do quite well indeed with their retro line, Why could they not do the same for the (seemingly) floundering Norton?
