Re: Single 34mm flatlside carb kit

Anyone have a line on a 2 to 1 manifold for a vertical motor featherbed with 34mm inlet & 32mm to the head?

Rocky Point is where I got the last one. Jim.

I made some high speed tests and learned that the fuel demands on a single carb on a Norton is inadequate at sustained WOT. I've tried drilling out fuel feed to the float needle orifice to .120"

Oh man that sounds scary if Jim says a Hi Speed run till he over ran the carb!
Btw how did you determine the bowls emptied, just by symptoms or by a device?

Start in 2nd gear with the petcock shut off till it begins to starve. Then flip the petcock on and give it WOT through the gears. If the fuel can't keep up the motor will start to surge - usually by the time you hit 4th gear and well befor top speed.

Top speed? If that ain't a begged question, I don't know what is.

OK that's explains what I wanted to know JIm, but it don't lower my raised hairs on WOT till starved, especially in lower gear that chews up the sleeve bushes, but sure do appreciate ya doing it for us. tt is a good thing to know before taking on a line of cars a semi's, with an end in sight.

Just got my first customer feedback on one of these single carb kits.

"Hey Jim,

I just wanted to send you an email and let you know that I finally got the single carb installed. Actually, it's been installed since the day I got it, but I had some other things I was changing out and hadn't had the chance to test it out until this weekend. So far it seems like it's the best money I've spent on the Norton. I have a rock solid idle no matter what I set it at. I'm keeping around 1100 rpm right now, but I have gone lower and it was solid. It definitely pulls hard on the low end. I guess it doesn't seem quite as peppy on the high side, but I don't run it up past about 65 most of the time. I am extremely happy with my purchase so far. Thanks for the single carb Mikuni alternative!

Chris"

Well I'm anxiously awaiting my single 34mm flatslide carb kit from JSmotorsports. I keep checking the ups tracking website, I bought it on the 5th it shipped on the 6th and is well on it's way from west coast all the way over here to the east coast. One of the great things about this is that it's all set up already and should suit my application (older stock 850) . I did see this 39mm keihin pumper on ebay (Item number: 180889468103) and it's already up to 299 bucks and that's without the manifold , jetting / set up etc.... Not to mention the good customer support--Jim's arleady put up with and answered all my questions over the phone. Anyway will post again when I install my new kit. Cj

Just recieved my new carb kit from Jim over at JS Motorsports, looks like it's gonna be about as easy an installation as it could possibly be. I'm gonna have to wait to put it on until a later date, as the movers just finished packing up our house and my bike too.
