While parked up outside a cafe yesterday following a test run from my carb fettled morning, a monster of a bike pulls up and parks next to my lowly Commando. Was all decked out in matte black, very few flecks of yellow on certain items. Rear wheel was totally covered in some kind of hub cover, with air scoops sculpted into the carbon fibre.
Mid-20's guy climbs off and we have a chat. The bike is an MV Augusta, he'd had it only a week and done about 40 miles so far. He lamented how he could not get insurance coverage from the BC provincially run auto insurer so he had to setup something with his corporate insurer out of Ontario. When I asked why so, he said the bike cost over $100k, and BC would not cover that for a bike (though there are thousands of Telsa's and super cars here that exceed that valuation and get coverage). He is employed by a global financial tech conglomerate (FinTec). He said he has dozens of bikes. I just cannot wrap my head around how such a young person can have so much disposable income.
He seemed sincerely impressed with the Commando. I told him he could have it for a mere $50k ;-)
