Hi Fellow Commandites-

My bike is a '74 850 Commando. Hoping someone can determine whether my bike is a MKII OR A MKIIA. Series number is 307471.

I am trying to buy the parts necessary to return the air box to stock. Apparently the two models have different boxes. So not sure what I need! Any help or pics is appreciated!!

Tom

The records are not good for this period, best to look at your battery tray as that is harder to change than exhaust system and air filter, if the battery is fitted across the bike then its a MK2A, if the battery is fitted front to back then its a MK2. Also MK2's went to US and MK2A's went to UK and Europe.

First MK2/2A was 307311 so yours is early.

As you appear to be located in the US, as kommando said, it will almost certainly be an early Mk2, as the 'low noise emission' Mk1A and Mk2A models were originally intended for sale on the European market although some Mk2As were sold in the USA later.

For Mk2, use the non-illustrated 065988 Mk2/2A supplement with the illustrated '73 parts book.

Has anyone combined these two in an updated pdf somewhere?
