ring break in question

I don't think statically turning over the engine will do much to break in rings the way they need to be.

One area many engine rebuilders don't pay enough attention to is cleanliness on bored and/or honed cylinders, wiping them with a cloth is not good enough. The cylinder bores need to be cleaned in hot, soapy water to remove the honing grit and metal fragments properly, which make an effective grinding paste and can ruin new rings - cleaned to the point that a white paper towel will not be discouloured when wiping the cylinders. Once clean, immediately spray with WD40 to prevent flash rusting.

This, with a reasonable break-in and an oil change at 100-150 miles should make for a long lasting rebuild.
