Left case half looks pretty decent, just a faint residue of sludge on the bottom. No chips, chunks, sludge or dirt.

Right case half looks just like the left. Superblend main bearings are in excellent shape.

The crank has been liberated from the cases.

Cam lobes look excellent, zero wear

The other two lobes look great.

Crank main journals look near perfect, zero scratches.

Virtually zero sludge in the crank trap. Just a bit of gooey, dark oil.

Hardly dirty sludge trap.

Rod bearing shells are in very good condition, just a bit of easy wear, no scratches. Almost all of my photos are right side parts on the right, left side parts on the left (same with head, plugs, pistons, etc.)

Just need to tear apart the transmission and head, carbs, and forks, and the disassembly phase will be done.

So THAT'S where all the sludge went in this engine! Yikes.

This is very typical of a Norton transmission.

Remember that rusted-stuck shifter shaft coupler? Well, it REFUSED to budge, so I cut it free (3 cuts).

Inner cover looks more normal inside the inner face...

Dirtiest place on the whole bike.

Last of the sludge, not TOO bad in the gearcase itself.

Transmission done. That's probably it till Monday.

Most of the parts are washed and sorted, master parts list compiled, and waiting on my distributors to quote back pricing.

Will be snapping pix of various piles that are going to powdercoat, polishing, cad plating & chrome shops.

Washed engine parts

Disassembled brake calipers, all 4 pistons are rusted and will be replaced

All the alloy parts that will be polished

Fork stanchions and bushings are like new. It will get new seals & dust boots anyway.

Danger Will Robinson! Infamous Portuguese layshaft inner bearing. It will be replased with a new upgraded superblend.

Wheels disassembled. The old hard rubber was a major pain (literally) to dismount. Hubs will get polished and sent to Buchanan's for lacing to the new rims. Turn out new rims cost less than rechroming old ones. Discs will be Blanchard ground.

Dropped off all the black (and rusty) parts off at the blaster's, he'll take them to the powdercoater when he's done. Also dropped off all the stuff for chrome plating.

First batch of new parts arrived yesterday. Blinkers are only for the nice chrome stalks, I'll re-install the original Lucas blinkers on them (old stalks were too rusted and expensive to replace or re-chrome). 3 more batches of parts yet to arrive...

Trans & wheel bearings, clips, sleeves, fork rebuld kits, tranny gasket & seal kit, K&N air filter, grommets, caliper & master cylinder overhaul kits, various plugs and wicks for swingarm, I.D. plate & rivets, brake hoses, throttle cables, tank isolator pads, rubber isolator buffers, front iso unit, petcocks, wiring harness, and dash decal, plus other various small bits.

This is one of the more tedious tasks - recording all of the tiny bits and bobs that will get sent to cad plating, to ensure nothing is missing when the batch returns. In over 12 years, they've only ever lost less than a half-dozen washers, screws and/or nuts. These are all of the bigger/odd bits...

Once I dug thru the screws and washers, I found a few bolts and spacers I'd missed...

Flat washers! The highest quantity of any single item on the bike to be cad plated - 40 flat washers (3rd, 4th & 5th rows from the top). There are an equal number of spokes and nipples (80 each), so more numerous than these flat washers, but I'm getting all new spokes & nipples for this project.

Burbank Plating in Pacoima, CA.

Yes, I use "white" cad. They also have "silver" but it's too bright.

They have a minimum batch charge of $160+ but you can send them up to 150# !!!

(This was barely 20#)

Does the re-plating cause any thread interference issues? I know chrome can sometimes do this, but how thick is the cad?

I've not had any interference issues. I believe it's out to 3 or 4 decimal places.
