unfortunately the Surflex company only offers thick fiber with the aluminum core just like AN
see here:
surflex norton offerings
If anyone finds a source for new solid fiber please speak up.
Years gone by, I would pick the british MC flea markets clean from all the guys dumping the fiber plates from Barnet "upgrade".
25 or 50 cents a piece, I'll take them all. thank you
Some are 100% plain surface and some have the degreasing circles on the faces. Out of 2 dozen only about 2 have a bit of measurable wear.

If so, then advertising them as solid fiber is misleading.
The alu core only shows when the teeth start crumbling ( which won't take long..)
There should still be NOS fiber plates around.
I can get them here in Belgium, but I have enough to last the rest of my life.
Used ones will do as well. Burn the oil out, put them in the dishwasher when the wife isn't looking and you're good to go.

If , I read well italian they said 122M1 disco garnito and 122M8 same BUT with anima aluminio...............one for 750 1968/1969 the other for 750 1970/1973 ?

from Italian Surflex company:

122 M 1 Disco guarnito= Garnished disc commando 68-69 (should be thick clutch ? solid fiber or bonded segment ?)

122 M 8 Disco guarnito (anima in alluminio)= Garnished disc (aluminum core) commando 70-73 (should be thick clutch ?)

122 M 12 Disco sinterizzato = Sintered disc commando 70-78 (should be thin clutch ?)

I've taken the liberty to post my own web content-doctored up here:

Friction Plates

EARLY THICK .145” friction plates Qty =4

68-70- bonded segment 06-0749 OEM on steel carrier

71-72- solid fiber 06-1339

Barnett- bonded segment-thick # 524-68 build evolved over the years...

LATE THIN .125” friction plates Qty=5

73-75 Bronze 06-3741

Barnett-bonded segment-thin # 524-73.

IMO ANIL is NOT producing 06-1339 and is in no way producing "real norton parts" and hide under the statement improved where needed/desired/warranted
I could respect them only if their parts were identified like 06-1399 rev2 (aluminum carrier?) and 06-1399- NLA
or 06-1084 rev2 cam chilled iron 1S profile
Does ANIL actually "make" "manufacture" "produce" anything?
Has anyone visited and seen the ANIL factory with all their industrial production equipment?

"Don't look behind that curtain!" The Wiz

IMO IF RGM plates are in fact solid fiber, and made to a reasonable facsimile of original NVT norton part then they have earned the right to use that part# 06-1339 .

Hi Ludwig,
Can you direct me to a source in Belgium. I'm in the US but it might be worth the postage to experiment.

Thanks,
Ed

I've got a lot of respect for your research and knowledge, and a lot of what I 'know' has come from your great website, but I've got to say that this statement is about as naïve as it gets.
Industry survived by moving away from 'in-house' manufacturing decades ago.
As far as I know, Norton never made their own clutch plates, pistons, tyres or castings - or frames, for that matter.
If you wanted a batch of cams made what would you do?

At least the RGM CR gear kit is getting favourable reviews, but I doubt they make the gears themselves :)

My Wife never uses the dishwasher, she said it is a waste of water and power. Maybe everyone could send me their plates and I could do a load. She would never know, until next time she opens it. lol lol lol. Sorry just trying to be funny.

NOS solid fiber plates:

They are stamped DON 112 087-02665C
Does anyone (DD?) know what that means?
Do they contain asbestos?

I purchased a set, or a kit by Surflex from Walridge which had solid fiber friction plates for a 750. That was over ten years ago so they could have changed there ways.
I have also purchased Surflex kits for my 850 which has the metal inner core. I will not use the bronze plates anymore. They beat the crap out of the center clutch hub despite that it is hardened steel.
Cheers,
Tom
