My old T160 with tear drop tank was also an interesting ride...I tried to keep it topped up at every lamp post of so just to be sure

reminiscent of the old Kawasaki 2 stroke jibe, "pass anything except a petrol station...."

Modern bikes aren't -much- better, my Hinckley Scrambler's tank is only good for ~100m before going to reserve.

thinking about it... define 'modern'... my Scrambler is 2006, so thats now 14yrs old...

I had a Kawasaki S2 triple in '73 during the gas crisis. I took it on a long trip to a rock concert (Watkins Glen) and was running on fumes so I took an exit off the highway but found the nearest gas station closed. Some guys on Harleys came by and one of them gave me a soda can's worth of fuel from his bike. Got back on the highway and literally coasted down a long hill to an open service area. Don't remember what mileage it was getting but it sucked.

45 hp on 330 lbs though, it had some go power.

I bet it was high 20's. I know my old Trident wasn't much better if you caned it which of course you did.
18/53 box to rear end didn't help the mpg but it made it easy to forget it weighed past 475 with fuel.
