RE; Numbers not matching

Well, I may be wrong (I often am), but there's only one `73 750 Commando on eBay by panman1960 (a.k.a "Doc") and yes, It was advertised as having matching numbers (in an added comment), but the auction was ended early because the "item was no longer available". So I don't see where it was actually sold through eBay.

So I'm pretty sure timarl54 doesn't get any Ebay or PayPal buyer protection if he bought the bike outside of Ebay.

Doc mentions his Facebook page within the Ebay auction where he also has it listed.

PayPal buyers protection is not tied to only purchases on Ebay. I use PayPal for almost all of my online purchases with purchase protection. https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/p ... d-security

From PayPal....Dispute resolution
If there’s a problem with a transaction, we’ll put a hold on the funds until the issue is resolved. We investigate and stay involved every step of the way.

In Doc's original auction, he only accepted Paypal for the $500 deposit. He wanted cash in person or a postal money order for the balance of the purchase.
The original Ebay listing was cancelled so it's useless as document in this case. And besides, Doc offered him a full refund (minus shipping).

But wait! There's more.
Doc's Ebay listing DID have a picture of the engine serial number and here it is. So is the VIN on the title same as the motor? If so, just stamp a new VIN tag for 20 bucks and move on...
RE; Numbers not matching

Anyone that sells on Ebay, but only accepts cash or postal money ordered should be avoided at all costs. That provides no protection to the buyer and as we all know, the internet is full of crooks.

It has been a few months since I checked this post, Amazing how people can pull a thread and figure out a complete story, I did indeed buy the bike off ebay. I did make the deposit thru paypal. since seller offered to refund if i returned bike paypal declined my request for consideration, The numbers on the title match the frame and trans number, So end of story. I am just finishing up a complete restoration and hope to be riding the bike in the Spring, Thanks to all that commented.

"Guess this is why many state use engine numbers for registration purposes."

Which ones? :?:

I have heard Washington and Oregon mentioned, and ca.dmv refers to registering a motorcycle with engine number and having to re-stamp the engine with an assigned number if it is replaced.

Best idea I'd say. You could stress yourself into an early grave over something like this, or put it behind you, move on, and build yourself a nice and perfectly enjoyable motorcycle.

Mine WAS matching numbers when I bought it. Now with a new AN gearbox case and now Maney crank cases lined up to go in, it is no more! And it doesn't even enter my thoughts, especially when I've got the throttle pinned to the stop!!

Not if they have a high feedback-there are some crooks if you pay by pay pal –I have been a victim of one –twice.
Pay pal fees are so high now that it would not make sense to advertise and sell on E Bay because it has become too expensive.

For a couple of years, I accepted nothing but postal money orders for e-bay sales, and never ripped anyone off. Thousands of dollars, for well over a hundred sales. Since it involved the Postal service, both for the money order, and for mailing it, the buyer is protected by federal law. If you have my physical address, they can find me easily. (also, I've lived here over 56 years and have no plans to move).

I'm back to paypal almost exclusively, except for wire transfers for bike purchases; again, federal protections and traceability.
