Racing again (at last)

What you need to realise is that some people make motorcycle accessories simply to make money. Product liability is a minor issue. If you crash a road race motorcycle and take a manufacturer to court, you would probably be laughed at.
 
Well done for going to Cadwell. CRMC is the best of the best so ignore the guff advice given here. I'm going to the Darley CRMC meeting and the test day August 8th
 
I had a Telefix clip on brake at Cadwell last time I was there, (mines just a road bike, at the Beezumph trackday last year, only pretending to race of course). It turned round on the stanchion when I was taking it off the trailer first thing so I tightened it up and it was fine all day, even wrestling against a back tyre going flat in the last session. when putting it back on the trailer at the end of the day, same thing, turned round on the stanchion, it had cracked right through. I couldn`t get a direct replacement part so fitted next size up with a wrap of shim steel around the stanchion, The new part was substantially thicker than the older one (perhaps lessons have been learnt). I have since decided i`m too old for clip ons and put standard bars and yokes back on and can now ride slower on the road in much more comfort - feels like a different bike.
Now where`s my pipe and slippers?

How come your not going up the inside of the corner cripples? But out dragging them in the straights!

Lack of experience Chris, only started racing last year and I still ride a bit like I do on the road. I did a couple at the hairpin for the first time but it is taking some learning. I will get it eventually but for now I am still wary about other riders changing direction on me.
If we end up at a meeting together I will be picking your brains for tips, never to old to learn.

Ralph I've never done a 1 58 at Cadwell lol I will be following you!
Last time I overtook at the hairpin all 3 of us took to the grass! Yep someone was overtaking me!
 
Whilst it does not seem appealing to me to be lumped in to a grid like that on an old Brit, I also have to say that you don’t appear to be giving much away on the straights Ralph !

I will have a run over to Darley, it is only 30 miles from me, I may even enter the meet.

I am too old for clip ons too, they are a no no for the road these days and 6 laps of Cadwell is close to enough for me now, its a pain in the neck. I see they have cancelled the Beezumph this year, catch you at the next one.

In race one when I passed someone going into the hairpin, I was surprised to be passed by someone else, you wouldn't think there is room for 3 just there would you.

Good thing you weren't dragging a knee puck at 95mph in a left hander when that happened. Would have been really hard to save.

Quick isn't it :)

I did some work on the engine over the winter. I machined the ring off the top of the pistons and increased the depth of the valve pockets, this allowed me to remove the spacer from the bottom of the barrels and has bumped the comp a bit, I took about 90thou off the pushrods to get the rocker angle right and reworked the head a bit, the valves in the Maney stage 3 head were shrouded a bit so i got rid of that. I presume it was a limitation of the CNC used to do the job in the first place.

The result seems to be positive as When I took the clutch apart last night, I couldn't see anything wrong with it, so the slipping could be caused by a bit more power. I will give it a clean and more spring pressure for the next outing.

That GSXR just had the legs on me but he got a bit upset when the quick guys came past, I think that why I got him in the end.

CRMC was great fun about 5 years ago! Harder and harder to enjoy it with an ever increasing stream of '80s multis. In

BHR has it's (many) limitations, but seem a better home for a Norton twin at the moment!

But the same is happening everywhere, French VMA is overun with '80s Ducati twins. Doubtless a quick rider has nothing to fear from them!

5 years ago I was probably as fast as Ralph is on his 920 on my 750....his bike has more potential and so does he, and I am getting slower, tempus fugit and all that.

Geddine is a fun event to do....maybe in 2021...the event planned for August has been cancelled.

2020 is different and Ralph is right to take every opportunity for a race this year. Running with CRMC will open his eyes to the pace of some, he will get faster.

I have entered to race in October to give myself a guage what I should do in 2021!

I have done a 1:58 at Cadwell, but it was on a GSXR750SRAD, got close on the GSXR750F as well....best on a Norton around 2 mins, but I would struggle to do it again I think....

Would be easy to add nylon bar ends. They have a shallow predrilled dimple in the center of the bar ends. I missed the fact that you gave the OP a suggestion he went with when I posted, opps. Besides to be honest I figured whatever I suggested would get pooped on here anyway.

I had those clip-ons on my P11 when I was pretending to be a cafe racer. Really an uncomfortable ride, but they drew a little bit of attention in a parking lot.

Probably the time road racing is really dangerous, is when you first start. When I was a beginner, one of the old guys said to me 'you need a lot of racing miles under your belt, and the bike has to do something for you'. One thing I found out very early is 'the faster you try to go, the slower you go'. Like anything, 'practice makes perfect'. When you spectate at a road race meeting most bikes seem to be going slow, when they are actually flying.
Never worry if you get blitzed, just work at becoming smooth and methodical, and speed will come. These days when I race, it takes me 5 laps of practice to get up to 90% of race speed, the rest comes after two races. So in the third race, I am usually in with a chance. As far as the other guys are concerned - if you get to the corner first, it is your corner. If they get there first, it can still be your corner.

That was me on 71, sorry I didn't recognise you Ralph. I thought I had a problem with the bike and was distracted.......turned out I had left the choke on....... I will try and write up from my perspective when I get a chance
