Pros and Cons with selling/buying on eBay

I've actually had really good luck selling through craigslist. Some of you may recall some Kawasaki Dunstall rear sets I had. I posted the on Craigslist and a guy in Florida picked them up. He just PayPaled me the money and off they went.

The other way is on forums. Talk about target audience. Like the time I posted a Momo steering wheel on a Ferrai forum. Let's just say that was entertaining.

Something to think about. A friend has his credit card hooked to pay pal. So all paypal purchases are made through the credit card. He says he then has the credit card protection in addition to paypal. It has saved his bacon on at least one occasion. I do not do this so do not know all the ins and out.

I got the PayPal debit card, so all my e-bay sales go into my spending account automatically. I can get up to $400 cash out daily for $1.75 fee.

Paypal will let you use your credit card, but it automatically defaults to your bank account so you have to chose the credit card option everytime. Pain in the butt but I get frequent flier miles on my card so I always us it.

I dislike selling on Ebay. If you are selling face to face, you can tell idiots to stuff off. I sold an Egli frame tank and seat for a TZ750. The guy wanted to build a TZ350 motor into it - why would I want to get involved in his engineering problems ? It ended up OK after a bit of angst, however I would not do it again, A swap meet is a much better option.

I just bought a 94 Speedy , picking it up in about ten days . Checked the frame number via triumph parts dept came back ok. Dvla for reg number , OK to. Dropped 200 deposit. So far so good.

This will be the third bike I have bought on eBay but I tend to avoid the recently rebuilt by an expert, only covered 100 miles since full rebuild.

I spoke to several people who have bought shinney bikes only to find they are botch jobs.

I would say eBay is what it is.

Ive been doing eBay for about for about 8yrs, started as a buyer like most, sell and buy now. I have 100% almost 1K feedback, a lot more but some buyers dont bother, last 10 sales only 5 feedbacks. What Ive learned is do your homework, selling and buying, eBay for buyers is not always the best deal. I like to low ball selling unless the quality of what Im selling is better, low profit is better than no profit. Theres a ton of junk, 8 years ago when I restored my Honda S90 if you did a search for this bike you you get about 150 hits, now its about 8,000. A lot think there selling diamonds when in fact its coal.

would never buy something on ebay that I can't afford to just lose the money on. And never a bike or anything unless it's so damned cheap that I could still make money parting it. That goes for any purchase site unseen. Don't trust pictures.

There's a lot of company's selling items on ebay, ie Summit Racing, Steadfast Cycles, Commando specialties just to name a few, its just another avenue to get there products out there. I've never been rip off, selling or buying, plus eBay always sides with the seller. If your buying Norton parts, websites are the best. I have had problems with amazon though. To each his own. :)
