Problem with LED headlamp bulb

Hi, I've just installed an LED headlamp bulb in my Commando 850 1974 positive earth motorcycle. I'm currently finding that when the LED bulb is on full beam the headlamp warning light in the headlamp shell is out, but when i switch the handlebar switch to dipped position the warning light comes on but the headlight bulb is dipped.
I've replaced the headlamp warning light bulb also with an LED but this makes no difference.
If i swap the Headlamp LED bulb back to the normal pre focus bulb it all works correctly.
Does anyone know if this is normal.
Thanks Neil

Yes, i did.
He sent me out an LED for the headlamp shell warning light, but still no improvement.
Yep, I had exactly the same problem (starting post #13)...

Cutting to the chase, I bit the bullet, binned the PG lights and bought the new Lucas LED's from B+Bogus and all was well.

The H4 plug pin assignment is different than the OEM lamp.

If i swap the Headlamp LED bulb back to the normal pre focus bulb it all works correctly.
BPF (British Pre-Focus), not H4 so no 3-pin plug.

I take it that i won't successfully be able to get these LED bulbs working the correct way, unless i change to the Lucas brand.

Unless i just put up with the warning light not working in the correct sequence or return to the Pre focus bulb ?

Well, never say never ;), but I took the easy option and started again as they're not over expensive.

The new Lucas BAY15D stop/tail light didn't work correctly on my '74 mk2 (for the reasons mentioned in post #73 in that link) and I swapped the high beam warning light back to the original bulb as it was too bright, burning my retinas on dark rides.

You could do worse than getting the Lucas main/high beam, pilot and a couple of warning lights if you're looking for a simple plug & play (part numbers in the link in B+Bogus's post #54).

Keep us posted 👍

there is a new LED BAY15 stop tail specifically for 917 rear lamps appeared in the Lucas range WW13101
i assume they have modified it to project white light on to the number plate and red for stop

Ahh, nice one, been waiting for that.

Cheers 👍

the Led bulbs sold by Goffy are listed as voltage specific & polarity specific fitment
the newer production LED headlight bulbs have overcome this issue and are not voltage or polarity specific with internal chips to compensate and they will work with 6-24 volts on both positive & neg ground systems
Lucas advise fitting the BA7 LED bulb in the warning light to eliminate any potential issues when dipping lights so a lot more plug and play than goffy`s range

Cheers Frankie,

I swapped the LED warning light bulb back to standard to avoid the distracting glare, with no issues 👍

I'm not knocking Goffy's lights by the way, they just didn't work out for me.

Fairly sure that's a planned part that will be arriving soon. I mentioned a while ago that I discussed the issue with Wassell and was promised that they via Lucas would rectify the problem. I don't think they've had any to sell yet but they are coming. I have an order on hold for more stock of all the LEDs and am just waiting for these to execute the order.

The 917-specific taillight bulbs are now in stock at Wassell and I will have them Wednesday or Thursday. They also now have turn signal LEDs but you must change the flasher to a LED-capable unit and the headlight indicator bulb must be re-wired. Personally, I'm sticking with standard bulbs for the turn signals and a standard bulb for the indicator but I will stock the turn signal LEDs and provide wiring info.
