when priming crankshaft with oil after rebuild, is their any reason why oil would not becoming out of rod bases, assuming I was the slidge trap was cleaned out.

Are you saying that you're hoping to see oil appear from the shells and the oil hole on the big end eye, and it isn't ?

If you're pumping oil in, it's got to be going somewhere and those are the only routes. However, with thick oil it's not going to be easy to get it in. You should have lubed the shells on assembly and filling the crank is intended to ensure that they don't run dry after start up.

What sort of pump are you using and how is it connected ?

Also the sludge trap will take a fair amount of oil to fill it. A few pumps from an oil can won't be enough.
