Primary - Engine Gasket Treatment

I use anti-seize on both sides of the gasket. It works well for the primary cover, gearbox inner and outer, rocker covers, and on the MK3, the big gasket between the primary covers. No problem with oil leaks if the surface has been prepared well. On disassembly, the gaskets often fall off, no scraping required, and often reusable. I don't do it out of cheapness, I do it for convenience and time saving. The fact that it also saves some cash is a bonus. It is very frustrating to do a simple job, the gasket is destroyed and you have to order another one and wait a week to finish.
This trick I learned on this forum and it works very well

Interesting suggestion. I never thought of trying anti-seize. I have tried just using grease, mostly on gearbox paper gaskets, and it doesn't seem to work. Gaskets still stuck to cases and had to be scraped off. Hylomar still my favorite. I've used the Yamabond/Three Bond/etc., but only for metal to metal joints, where it works quite well, as long as the fit is good. Not to good at filling gaps. The Loctite stuff works pretty well for warped surfaces, and I've used it with great success on welded crankcase halves, which always suffer some warpage. Definitely more than one way to skin the cat.

Doesn´t anyone use the special gaskets that JS sells? From what I´ve read they seem to be the perfect solution, no?

Jim doesn't list the primary cover to engine gasket in the list of the ones he supplies.

I got a MK3 primary from Cometic ( rubberized aluminium)
Perfect seal and it falls away from both surfaces when you remove the cover.
Won't tear either.
