Pictures of your Norton 961

Well I feel a bit humbled after being treated to those excellent images and their historic references. I had a lovely ride to work in a rare occurrence of what I have heard referred to in foreign climes as 'sunshine'; what we tend to know as 'not-rain' so I took a pickture of my 2017 961 just down the road from work in Birmingham's jewellery quarter and d*cked around with it in paintshop pro. I think this bike is just so gorgeous from any angle and now thanks to Stu at Motorvated 🥇it is pulling like a train again. View attachment 114114

Thank you. TVS Norton, in a huge act of generosity, allowed me to buy a set of new rockers, shafts and shims at around £2500. I polished the wear from the posts and used some of the old shims to set the side float. I used lash caps for the damaged valve stem and modified the adjusters so the oil feed was correct. However it was still not running right so it went to Stu at Motorvated and had a total strip/rebuild. Turns out the camshaft lobe had worn away to almost nothing. He sorted out other issues such as modifying the oilways to the clutch and numerous other bits. He is totally meticulous in his work; an engineer to be admired. So now its running well and pulling strong and I love it to bits.

That’s great news Clive. I think I saw Stu’s post on Facebook regarding the clutch lubrication mod.👍
 
My 961 is the best yet and ready for the long haul.

Super sunny Monday, no traffic, couldn’t resist! Spotted a short stress crack forming in the rear brake resevoir hanger, as I was prepping the bike. ‘She’ll be right mate’, as the Aussies say with blind optimism, for one more short ride before I fix that. Nah,…..she’s not always right!:oops:

Clocking some more miles up while the weather is still OK , thought I would go to my home town of Westhoughton a small rural place where not much happens today. But in 1910 just before Christmas there was a terrible explosion in a local coal mine which affected nearly every family in the area. The youngest person killed was 13 and the oldest 61, one woman lost her husband four sons and her brother all at once . It's hard to comprehend this scale now, but within a two mile radius of the town centre there were 16 mines at the time and health and safety was nil. A relief fund raised £145,000 ,which is £10 million in todays money and every year a memorial service takes place.
 
A few pictures from the 100th celebrations at the Wharf inn. the nigt before. Even Cliffa turned up from Switzerland on his UK bike, hoping to pay for his trip selling his throttle body covers!

Not a great start to the day where a an ill considered left turn had me meeting the steering lock and dropping my bike! Only damage, a loosened mirror, bent side stand tang thingy and a broken leaver. Very relieved nothing else damaged!

Two traditional narrow boats. These were used in the late 1800's to the 1900's for transportation of commercial goods throughout the canal system.

I'm not sure what the final count was. I heard that 27 961's turned up...but I counted 23 at one point

So all in all, a great day was had, just a tiring ride home through a few miles of stationary/slow moving traffic due to a rather nasty accident on one of the main motorways heading to London.

Great organsiation and I'm sure Jonathan will be doing a you tube video covering some of this!
 
It was a terrific weekend for me. First the Andover Norton open day on Saturday, then meeting the gang at the hotel later, followed by yesterdays superb meet. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and sold all the covers I’d brought with me:).
By the time I got to the M11 the warning was saying 1.5 hour delay due to the accident. I managed to thread my way through it, as most car and truck drivers moved over for me.

The same for me, except when one rider ahead decided he would no longer filter and stopped, blocking everyone else! Tempers were not too frayed and he started moving again after a few minutes. It looked like a nasty crash though, so my view, someone else was having a worse day! Hope you got home safely and great to meet! Your cover stayed on despite some very rough surfaces on the A14...unlike my mirror which went awol!
