Yep, that is the kit, all good stuff. The only additional item my kit had (bought it four years ago) is the peg socket, which is easy to make from an old socket. It can likely be purchased elsewhere on the rgm site.
I suppose it makes good competitive sense to take the wrench out of the kit, it appears others dont include it.
Also, for people with more than one amc gearbox, once you have the tool, no use getting a new one with each new kit purchased.

Good quality bearings? No questionable sourcing there?

The kit from RGM is good value. Bearings were from Germany as I recall.
Actually, RGM has a lot of good deals. The owner is a longtime Commando owner as well, so he knows something about parts quality. Although from the sound of it the RGM clutch pushrod seal is not a winner.

Now I know where I'm going to get my gearbox parts from, thanks for the info.....I love this site :)

Andover lists a complete kit 06-7279 about half way down the page. 126.50

Looks like I will go with the Andover kit -- that looks great. What about tools? Do I need any Whitworth/AF sockets to do this job?

Maybe check the Kickstart Pawl for wear while you are inside the gearbox.

A worn pawl can give a nice surprise to your knee when kick starting the engine!

Before I had a Whitworth set I got by using metric and Imperial sizes on the bike. It slows the process down, but will work. I was always able to get a decent fit, however you have to make sure the socket/spanner you choose is a snug fit. 15 mm fits a lot of items on the Commando very nicely as does 13 mm. But some items fit the Imperial sizes right on.
So you can't be in a hurry and a Whitworth set will go onto your Christmas list. :D

So no Whitworth / AF sockets wrenches necessary for a transmission rebuild? I thought I might order any tools I needed when I put in the order for the RGM rebuild kit. I know I need that peg wrench, but I was hoping to figure it out or borrow one from somebody on the forum.

If you have a big enough old spare socket, it can be ground out to form a peg socket. Another way is to grind up the appropriate sized piece of pipe then weld a square onto the other end for a large crescent wrench to turn.
Otherwise I believe RGM sells them at a pretty low price. You could borrow mine, but shipping back and forth is more than the wrench is worth!
If you have a full set of metric and Imperial sockets and spanners you will get by without the Whitworth OK, just be prepared to mix and match.

Thanks! Not ordering the Whitworth sockets for now.

Is the layshaft roller bearing included in the Andover kit acceptable? I would think so, but I have seen some literature about upgrading to a needle roller. What do others think? I only want to do this once.

Nomadwarmachine you want the roller layshaft bearing , there is no needle type, don't know who told you such a thing.

Got it. Is the one I want included with the Andover kit? The Hemmings-recommended bearing has a cage, but the Andover-supplied bearing appears to be open. Okay to go with the Andover-supplied roller, or should I order another one from Mick?

Hmmm. RGM's parts are less expensive than the same parts from Andover, AND RGM includes a superblend layshaft bearing.

Is there any reason to go with Andover instead of RGM? Andover includes an uncaged roller layshaft bearing in its kit, but if there is a reason to avoid RGM I will do so.

I've had long term success with RGM's full kit & kabudle. Do get an extra 1st gear bush and pawl spring if ya plan on riding as much as ya like and save the old sleeve shaft bushes to use one as middle spacer if RGM's ain't gone to two long ones yet. Oil grooving these ain't a bad id either.
