Hi Guys,

Not a technical question, but one of a minor aesthetics nature. I have seen several images of 961's with the 'Norton Logo' and 'N' on the engine casing painted black; it looks very effective. Google 'Norton 961 Paint Scheme' and several will pop up.

Has anybody on the forum had this done?

Regards,

Thanks Richard, that's interesting,

What product and procedure did you use, noting that you painted over the clear protective coating of the engine covers.

Thanks.

Steve

Engine covers are polished aluminum. There is NO protective coating on the engine unless it's black.
PH NEUTRAL Aluminum Polish is your best friend.
I used I heat paint to paint my logos. Then took a day trip to cure it. Then polished a lot of it off to look worn.

I did the same as Richard but painted mine in red. Its really easy with a cheap set of artists brushes.

The fuel tank logo is the wrong one. The timing cover logo is ok. . The tank logo is missing the small t stroke. . Look at any old norton logo and you will see the small T stroke.

Old bikes (before 2012) have the old logo (with t stroke) on their tank as well. I guess Stuart changed the logo...

Stuart changed it to the one on the tank to make it his own. But on my bike, and all the ones ive seen, only the tank is new logo.

Hmmm. Never noticed that. Is that to avoid copyright infringement hassles like Triumph having to connect the T from the P instead of the H on the original logo?

Thanks for your help Richard,

I was just wiping the engine casings down with the help of a little WD40 thinking that they had a protective coating on them. I have attacked them with some Ally polish and they have come up beautifully.

Wonder if anybody has tried gold paint on the engine case logos - that could look pretty good also.

So what's the best technique for getting a good black logo on the casing?

-Detailed carful and accurate approach

or

-Layer it on with thick brush then uses wet and dry on a block to get the sharp edges
