The seat isn't too bad, maybe a little flat from 40 year old foam. It's a '70-72 cover. If it's a matter of where to spend money, I'd replace the glass tank with a steel one first.

You could send the seat to Sargent and have new foam put in. They can put in different densities for your individual comfort as well.

I completely agree! I already started looking for a steel tank, but i wish to find a good original second hand one.. quite difficult..

as per the seat, my impression is that in the back part the leather has been pulled tighter, so deforming the original shape..
I got to the website of Sargent, but i couldn't find any pic of their norton seats: I was even thinking to buying the original remade by wassell..

Sargent doesn't make Norton seats, but they will rebuild any seat. I know a couple fellas that have sent their Norton seat to Sargent for a re-build and are very happy. I don't know the cost, but I'd guess it is close to what a new aftermarket seat goes for.

Hi to All,
today I got back to the bike again and I succeeded in starting it a few times  , but as soon as I got on the 1st gear it always turned off :?

certainly there's something wrong with the carburation and the idle

but at the end, something I noticed was that one muffler was already hot and the other one completely cold!
I feel there's something quite weird with this but I really wish it is not what I think..

any ideas?!

By the way: what colour the writing on the back should be? :?:
silver? golden?
thanks! :D

Assuming that you have a good spark on both plugs it sounds like you could have a problem with a blocked pilot jet. Check that the pilot jet is ok on the side which is cold, this is quite common problem as the pilot jet easily becomes blocked you can clear it with some thin wire. There are quite a few threads on this problem, I have had the same type of fault where one cylinder is not firing or intermittent and it has either been the pilot jet or a faulty spark plug. So that is what I would check first, especially if it fires ok on that side if you open the throttle.

Wow, nice bike. Reminds me of my first Norton nearly 20 years ago - a yellow 1969 's' commando. I wouldn't worry about that seat, I've seen far worse and you won't be looking at it when you're doing 70mph on some twisty Italian roads. Get it running sweet then hit the road and ride the sh#t out of that thing.

It's surprising how often it's something simple like a loose spark plug wire. It's not likely to be TOO serious problem.

There has been some debate on the seat logo's. I can say with 95% certainy that all the 75's were gold.
The Guy's at Norton weren't horribly bad with record keeping. But they were rather haphazard with assembly.
Welcome to the oddly tilted dimension that is "Norton".
