Here is our promo brochure for the Transmission Vent Kit. It is really, really nice. A lot nicer than the protos some of you have already seen. Super high end. For Install instructions please refer to my Manual "Transmission Vent - Norton 961"

BONUS: This kit comes with a really nice AIR BOX Drain with removable plug. Way more user friendly than the existing, and like most of us, we lost the existing cap so we use things we can find like golf tee's to stop the oil flying on to our rear brakes.

Sorry for the delay on tools and other items but with my dads accident a lot has been pushed back. We are back now and we will be releasing a lot of items at once in the next few weeks.

This Vent will be available from Colorado Norton Works very soon. If you do not have a vent on your bike, this may be the best investment you can make.

Richard - do you think I should send this kit along to MCC to be installed before they do the break-in? My bike is expected to arrive there next week.

Once it arrives I will inquire about the new oil venting kit. It seems I should have that on my bike since it's a recent build.

Contours, MCC may be leary of installing non factory equipment during your warranty. I would install it but not publicize it on a public forum until 2 years has passed!

Hmm. I understand what you're saying. I was just hoping to avoid an issue ahead of time. It would be a shame to discover a leak from the starter gasket during the break-in when it could have been avoided. maybe I'll pose the question to MCC.

In any case, I appreciate the heads up.

I would put it on. It wont void a warranty. If anything it will prevent a warranty claim.

Your call and your bike but there is NO VENT in any 961 so if you do any long rides the pressure will build and it will find the least resistant spot to relieve itself. Which will likely be your starter gasket.

Yes looking forward to hearing back from anyone who have this new airbox oil device installed for results.

Yes, that's what i was thinking. Though I won't be riding it it will have the equivalent of 600+ miles on the engine after the break-in service. I think I'd like to have installed beforehand. I'll be speaking with them next week.

Thanks,
Peter

I would think they would install it , just talk to Bob in MCC service dept.

I'm attempting to install the transmission vent kit. I'm having a heck of a time trying to remove the threaded plug from the airbox. I'm using what seems like excessive force and it won't budge. I even added some penetrating oil and let it sit for a couple hours.

Does anyone have any experience working through the install? Is this somewhat typical? I don't want to damage anything.

I found the updated Transmission Vent Manual Revision 1 sent out a few weeks ago. It would seem the brass plug on my bike delivered 12/2014 is glued as mentioned in the updated manual. The kit I received 6/2/2016 has the old fitting. So, that explains it. I guess I'll have to track down the new fitting.

I received the option 2 fitting and started installing the vent kit today, only to run into another problem. When attempting to remove the bolt from the airbox, it seemed to be loosening, but just when I thought it was about to come out, it fell down so the head of the bolt was resting on top of the airbox as if I never loosened it. I did not feel like I was using excessive force. It's pretty hard to use much of any force when you are using a short allen key and can only get a couple fingers in the small space between the frame and the airbox. I took a peek inside the airbox and it looks like this bolt was not meant to be removed. I think the threaded portion of the airbox separated from the airbox, but I wont be sure until I figure out a way to get it removed. I also found a lot of oil in the airbox, so I'll have to deal with that as well.

So, I would not go about removing this bolt without opening the airbox and seeing what you have on the inside.

I'll follow up with more information when I get the bolt removed and figure out how I'm going to repair the airbox. Hopefully, I won't need to replace it as I'm sure it will cost quite a bit.

What year is your bike? I would say manufacturer defect of the airbox as this is a first ive heard of this happening in three years. Please keep me posted.

Ps. Ive heard of early fuel tank bolts stripping the nuts in the tank on early bikes. The two bolts on the tank at the front feom the underside.
