One way breather valve differences

It's the lower one, in case your French is rusty.

Allowing a small amout of fresh air into the valve cover would tend to scavenge the crankcase of blowby gases and may be of some value in keeping the crankcase clean and free of moisture from combustion

Surely one would need to fit another but reversed check valve into the rocker breather to prevent the crankcase gases from just blowing in and out, and thus turning the motor into an air pump ?

I would think that the gases would act as a spring and eventually find an equilibrium and do nothing much. However, my old lose ball valve that I've made and used for too many years seems to leave the oil cleaner than the SX valve, and yes, the timing cover does get hot, Hmmmm ? :?

All very interesting, I only ever fitted a check valve coz I found the breather tube lined with grit right up to the tank not because of leaks.

Keep up the good work,
Cash

There is another benefit from having a vacuum in the crankcase. It minimizes frothing of the oil. I've read about it regarding engines, but I've also seen it in action. Lost wax/investment casting uses an investment substance like cement. The investment slurry is mixed in a contraption that looks like a Cuisinart. It has an o-ring seal on the top and a vacuum fitting. If you don't run the vacuum it looks like beer. Mixed under vacuum, zero bubbles, no frothing.

OK stop teasing Jim, When are you going to have the fuel injection kits ready? I need to know!!! Nice work.

oil dumps on the side of a spinning crank from a new oil hole low in the timing chest or with the original setup the timing gears churn the oil but oil returns to the sump pickup.

I have nearly a dozen reed valves similar to the XS unit.

Will match Mike's price, whatever the most recent one was.

The German XS outlet is out of them too, I had the last one plus I got a pair of lookalike Racetech Cartridge emulators for €45 (Breather was €13, they are on Mikes site for $16), plan to fit these to 2 sets of pre 71 Triumph shuttle valve forks, one valve per set fitted to the brake fork leg.
