Could we come up with a way to turn the ISO a half a turn every say 500 hundred miles? The front one would be easy but the back one might be a challenge. Phil

The rubber doesn't deteriorate that quickly. A lot of the time you are see problems with original rubbers which are very old.

You have a Mk3 spring head steady? If so no problem. Leave it on the side stand.
I put wood block under it to keep the bike more upright and fluids more or less where they should be.

The first time I started my '73 850 I did it on the C-stand and the guy I was buying it from yelled at me and showed me how to start it with no stands down.
If you get it ready (tickled, flame on, past TDC) first and then lean it to the LEFT before the swing (do NOT Jab the K-start, PUSH it!) the bike ends up standing up straight and running.

A big hit at our rally is the "C-stand races", line up the back wheels, get the bikes running and rev the crap out of them so that they "Dance" backwards! The races make great noise and are a crowd favorite! (the "track" is about 5' long).
