Old triumph old rider

I've never owned a really modern bike. Newest was a 400-4 Honda for a while. Since now I own 4, 69-74 they are all more or less
in the same performance era. Because of this I know their limits and drive within them. In airplanes you are type certified and usually have a lot of time in one type. The old boy is well at home with his old shoe and likely better off because of it.
I know I am!
Those Honda front brake calipers are just about pure junk !
I know cause I bin them!

You can rest your case mate
Rest it with your sarcasm and your I'm cleverer than you are miserable attitude
I hope you are happy
I'm just happy this site has an ignore button so I don't need to read any more of this drivel!!!
DITTO! :-(

And back in the day when I had that bike I thought it was quite the amazingly reliable and flog-able wonder. Never had a clue that the caliper was substandard.

The cable angle looks to be still slightly acute, at least before the brake is applied. I’ll expect the gearbox is full of tar and his false teeth don’t fit.

Amazingly only one other person on this website made the same observations as I did with his comments.
You people haven't done a drum brake for donkeys years cause you are so hung up on your disc brakes!
I don't have to or want to spend all day on a computer explaining my comments to the likes of some of these "short sighted" home mechanics.
Great post Triton Thasher.

Sad if you don't tell us more about what the old gentleman told you.
A lot can be learnt from a guy who has maintained and ridden his bike for all these years.

I've never owned a 400 4 I did have a cb500 4 can't remember what brake caliper it had up front? Maybe the same as the 400?
Mine had a big bore 600cc top end Yoshi cam
I machined the crown of some f2 750 pistons to fit it
Also had a cb 550 fork a bit later on and a couple of cb 750s
I remember the brakes on the 750s being marginal
But acceptable at that time
Cheers

All I've to add is that the elderly fella should be featured in a few of the top magazines to show him the MC world appreciates and respects his loyalty/achievement in celebration of the relationship with his Trumpster. A most serious rider is evident...... As Joe's hat is tipped to him several times.
My brakes are marginal also anyway. He rides it, it runs and the cows are softly lowing in the fields as the larks sing. I pray in 20 years that I'm here and able to follow his lead with my aging beast.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…. so glad I left the UK in ‘75, couldn’t stand how corny the place was and I see it hasn’t changed any.
