THANKS TO ALL!! it never ran right -- before. Then hadn't run at all for months. Lots of dispair I would ever get it right. Having second thoughts about the "fabulous" Mikuni. Put in the reccomended size idle jet (30). No improvement -- maybe because I couldn't even get it to run, let alone run right! And wondering what else might be wrong. Set the valve clearances and got to work on the Power Arc from Old Brits. Two days ago the Power Arc worked. But the gel cell was completely run down. Charged that for two days. Charged to 100%. Put on the tank. One kick with slight kick back. Half way through the second kick it started running -- perfectly! It wasn't even a hard kick. Kind of a lazy swing through. I have a bike again! Once again, thanks to all for bearing through all the stumbling texts. Encouragement might just be 90% of what you need in this game.
