I replaced the oil pump gasket a while back and have a niggly thought pop up as to the holes in the centre of the Gasket. ( I just read a thread about lack of oil causing damaged con rod)
in the back of the pump are too holes and the gasket has two holes that align these. On the purchased gasket the distance between holes in the gasket was so small as to seem almost ineffective in sealing between these two pump orifices. If the gasket seal were to fail between these holes would this cause low oil pressure and maybe engine failure.

No Suggestions?
I will try and find a pressure guage and measure the rocker feed pressure.
I still won't Know if the big ends are getting enough oil.

(Sorry, I did intend to reply sooner!)

I can't see how that could happen, as the high pressure feed outlet from the pump doesn't pass across the pump gasket face, but connects with the drilling in the timing cover.
There are three ports on the gasket side of the pump, two of them are inlets, one is for the feed, and the other for the scavenge, so there's no pressure in either. The third port is the outlet for the scavenge, which should have little or no pressure in the system, so even if there were to be some cross-bleeding between the two closest ports, I can't see how that would result in any pressure loss of the feed system?
Also remember the Commando valve gear is supplied from the high pressure feed side of the pump,-unlike many British bikes that feed their valve gear from the scavenge return system, so even if some of the scavenge oil did manage to bleed across the pump gasket there wouldn't be any loss of pressure to the valve gear?

hi dgwilson,if you do fit a pressure gauge to the rocker feed, the reading you get there should be the same as what is going to the crank because they are both fed from the same oil gallery,no?
