I too use fuel injection clamps now. Until recently if I had the original clamps Norton and Triumph used and they were not rusty I used them.

Then came I bike I finished for a guy two years ago. He kept having a leak at the oil filter. Over time, I changed oil filters several times, I changed the oil filter mount, I changed the hoses - nothing would stop that annoying leak. So, I had him leave the bike and rigged a bench test platform. Washed all the parts so they were spotless. Installed two new hoses. Filled the whole thing through the return line and waited. I couldn't believe my eyes! One hose was leaking. I tighten the clamp more and the leak got worse! Then I changed the only thing I had never changed - the OEM hose clamps - problem solved!

Sorry, can't find the picture - the clamp had a bulge opposite the screw. As it tightened the sides pulled in but the bulge got bigger and squeezed the hose away from the pipe. I know it doesn't sound possible but I watched it happen. I'm guessing that the bulge was "work hardened".
 
Hose clamps do wear anytime I pull a hose off I always inspect the hose clamp the worm gears do wear from use or over tightening them to rust, they can also tighten out of true and all, but I have never had one fail when being used, but you also got to use good quality hose clamps when working at the Tec College (TAFE) they only buy the best and I am glad I built up my stock pile over the years and not just hose clamps ;) 🤫
 
I've used the standard worm-type clamps at pressures above 200PSI with no leaks. I have no idea what they are "rated" for or even if a rating system exists.

The reason for me wanting to change is the ss worm type seem to cut into and damage the hose.
The EFI ones seem to have slight flares at the ends as well as no "slots" (worm drive) which may give the hose an easier life.
I have ordered a few so will find out.

You are not alone in terms of a quirky change fixing the problem.
 
I've just replaced the oil hoses. They were the herring bone type but I wasn't sure if they were original or not but they seemed rock hard.
I used these clamps from fleabay.
Can you explain how to use these Oetiker clamps please . I don't see the tightening method .
 
Great thread - really impressed with some of the solutions I am seeing. Not much to offer, but I use a Mishimoto clamp for the oil filter (not the gold one!) and HPS fuel injection clamps for the oil and breather.

You need a special crimp tool which pinches the ears together. These tools have become commonplace with the popularity of PEX tubing for domestic water piping..

They are single use clamps, and difficult to remove.....need to be cut off with a Dremel tool,

The main advantage is that they apply a high clamp force and will withstand high fluid pressure within the tube.

BTW ..... once you use PEX with these clamps, you will never go back to PVC pipe and solvent weld glue.
 
I’m working towards all AN style clamps/fittings as I think they look cleaner. I also have a bit more flexibility as my oil tank is built into the gas tank so tons of room to figure out placement of filter etc.
The Andover ones for oil hoses are worm drive - are these what you're referring to?

Well, small stuff, I know - but may have significant consequences.
First photo shows:
Left - worm drive clamp that came off (you can see the thick, overlapping - it had damaged the hose)
Middle - EFI clamp as purchased (14-16mm)
Right - EFI clamp with shorter ss screw and locknut (loctite blue used on these)

Other photo shows the "flare"either side of the EFI clamp - will be easier on the hoses.

The thinner material and shape of the new clamps will, in my opinion, better clamp the hose without damage.

The other advantage of these is they have minimal protrusion - less barking of hands during cleaning!

Last night, I threw away the "hillbilly hosecutter" clamps supplied with the kit I was fitting.

I just insert a small screwdriver and pop the outer ring off of the locking pin. Easy peasy.
That's what i do. Pretty easy. Only problem is when you can't get get at it with a screwdriver at it (important to position them so you can) and the fact that they're destroyed when removed. Other than that, they're great clamps.

And the only time you'll need to remove them is when you need to replace the hose.
