oil filter kit for domi 99?

Hey All,

Newer forum member here. I'm a pal of MikeGray660 and he tols me about this place.

Anyway, I've got a 1960 Domi 99 and I'm looking to add an oil filter kit. I know Norvil makes one, but I was wondering if any of you had used theirs' or other brands. Any advice? How did the routing of the piping work out for you?

Thanks,

Theirs is just the Commando filter/holder plus (i assume) a bracket to mount to the featherbed frame.
I have the parts to fit to my 1960 (wideline) ES2 but need to make up a bracket, i bought mine from British Spares (NZ) and no bracket in their kit.
Pipe routing looks simple, over the gearbox, as long as the filter mount is orientated correctly.
A couple of mates have fitted filters to their 88's and all is happiness.

Doe's anyone know the dimensions of the filter kit ?
I'm thinking of fitting one to my Triton, but I would like to know if I can squeeze it between the inner engine mount plates.

Thanks

Gday Webby, heres two pics of the RGM filter kit plus bracket Ive got to fit one day!?

I measured the gap between the gearbox and engine plates to be 3.25 inches, so Im assuming the filter should fit at 3 inches in size? Then of course there's the buggery factor that could kick in and it interfere with the box etc. The stainless bracket in my pics allows it to be mounted behind the gearbox/trans.

That bracket is really nice looking! Do you know what the threads dimension and depth are on the RGM filter base? Also, may I ask for you do me the favor of telling me the dimensions on that bracket? I would love to cobble up that bracket. It looks like it would fit directly on the lower rear bracket of the frame.

Gday kevin, yes is a nice looking bracket and made from stainless aswell. The holes in the filter head are 5/16 NF 24TPI and approx 1/2" deep. Below are some pics in place and with measurements, hopefully this helps.

Thanks Foxy,

That was just the info I needed!

My cunning plan was to hide the filter between the rear motor plates here.

As my plates are mounted on the outside of the attachment lugs I gain an extra 0.25 inch, so theres loads of space.

All the best

You could just mount it the commando way, 2 mounting holes for the head in one of the plates.

You read my mind Bwolfie, that is the plan!
I'll wait till I get the rear fender fitted to figure out the exact position, that way I can make sure there is a clear kink free run for the hoses.

All the best

Yes, that's true, but if you don't want to strip your bike down to the engine plates to allow for drilling the holes, the bracket sure makes a lot of sense.

Thanks all for the info in this thread! Especially to Webby for the wealth of info on that bracket. I found an RGM filter base available from Dommi Racer and I'm going to do up a bracket.

I have a genuine oil filter base with the bolts, clamp and clamp plate for sale if someone needs it. $50 shipped to the states, $60 everywhere else.

I'm on the job of recomissioning the bike. I've got an oil filter kit coming. I've got to fab a bracket like yours and mount the kit. I've got some new EMGO shocks to replace the 13" wideline featherbed shocks that are causing the centerstand to not sit right. I've addressed the surface rust on all body panels. I guess the next project will be a breather valve. Have any idea if a breather valve will work in line on the discharge with the oil filter? I'm assuming it should not be an issue. I'm going to mount it upstream from the filter.

If I understand what you are saying you want to put a breather valve on an oil line?

If so that is really bad.

Ok, well I need to go back and do some research. I'll re-read those threads again on INOC. Does the valve go on the breather vent from the crankcase then? On a Dommi, it goes straight out of the back of the crankcase. Thanks for making me check, swoosh.
