Off Idle Sputter On My Velocette

Recieved the Trispark EI housing and new coil. Machining of the housing is very high quality. The e-BTH mag unit coming off bike looks quite rough in comparison, despite it being a newly made casing specifically for the EI units, and selling for more than double the Trispark item.

What an horrific struggle removing two of the three nuts holding the mag to the velo engine. Almost as if they expected you to remove the cylinder block to get to the mag nuts. Had to improvise using open end wrench in line with nut end to twist wrench to slowly turn two nuts off. Starting those same two onto studs when fitting trispark even more difficult as not possible to have more than one fingertip in contact.

Somehow i managed it. Packed it in for the day and will continue with setup in next few days.

Trispark ign unit and coil swapped on my MSS, BTH ei unit left sitting on floor under Commando.

36 deg BTDC static dialed in. All Trispark tests looks fine. First kick, she spat back out the velocity stack a few times. Second kick and she roared to life, idljng nicely once warmed up. Riding about neighbourhood for a good 30 minutes, not one sputter or misfire.

Job-s-a-goodun!

Many thanks to Greg Marsh who offered to exchange my unused Commando CCW version Trispark unit he sold my 3 odd yrs ago for the CW version from his older stock, needed for the Velo. This saved around $350 off the Trispark order, only the housing and a new coil was needed.

I can now plan to enjoy the Delights and Economy of Velocetting at long last!
